Hello and welcome to Primary 3/4/5 with Mrs Gibson and Miss Eaglesham!
Mrs Gibson will be our teacher Monday-Thursday and Miss Eaglesham will be our teacher on a Friday.
Literacy
This term we are working hard on developing our writing skills. We are focusing on appropriate use of capital letters and full stops, using finger spaces between words, extending our sentences and checking they make sense. Furthermore, we are reinforcing
correct letter formation and letter sizing.
We are working as a class to peer assess pupils written work and this is helping us all to identify areas where we need to improve going forward. For spelling we are working through the North Lanarkshire Active Literacy sounds every week and are carrying out some active work and jotter work to help us remember our
sound words and common words. On our bump-up day the pupils chose ‘The Nothing to see here hotel’ which we have now
completed in class and the children thoroughly enjoyed it. It got 10/10 ratings from almost all the pupils at the end.
Reading groups have been running for the last few weeks and children have been asked to take them home to practise but ensure they bring them back each morning. If you have time to listen to/read with your child it would be much appreciated.
Reading for Pleasure
We are continuing to work hard at promoting a ‘Reading for Pleasure’ culture in our school. We enjoy reading a wide variety of books and using the Libby app to access e-books and audiobooks.
Graphic novels are proving very popular in class, especially ‘Dog Man’, ‘Bunny vs Monkey’ and the ‘Guts’ series by Raina Telgemeier. This class are also really enjoying non-fiction books that are
game-related (no surprises there!) and others such as ‘Ripley’s Believe it or Not’ and the ‘What on Earth’ magazines. In class every morning we are learning animal facts by reading ‘Truth or Poop:
Amazing Animals’. By the end we will have learned 50 unusual facts and hopefully they will share some with you at home!
Numeracy and Maths
In Maths this term we have been working on Number Bonds to 10 and 20, 2 and 5 times tables, Place Value and Time (including days of the week, months and seasons). We will continue working on these and will also be covering strategies for addition and subtraction in coming weeks. Throughout the session we do a lot of information handling, generally with votes and bar graphs.
IDL
Our topic this term has been Ailsa Craig and we have had lots of fun completing Art activities and learning interesting facts about the island. We will also be learning more about volcanoes, rocks and birds as part of this topic which we are really looking forward to.
Music
Since returning this term the children have been working hard with
Mrs Coleman on body percussion. Mrs Coleman will be with us for
the full year. P5 are receiving YMI input with the P5/6/7 class and are working on a Wizard of Oz show. P3/4 will also be receiving YMI input with Vikki Green from Tuesday 18th September.
