The JRSO scheme allows pupils to adopt additional responsibilities and to become directly involved in road safety matters. It enables them to highlight problems that affect them locally and raises awareness of road safety issues within their school and the wider community. By encouraging greater interest in road safety in schools this scheme aims to help primary school children to use roads in a safer way.
To become a JRSO, the children of Primary 6 prepare for an interview where they are asked to give reasons why they would be a suitable person for the job. Once the interviews are complete the choosen JRSOs are given training. Throughout the year Maidens JRSOs are responsible for arranging competitions and events to promote road safety with all the children in the school.
This year’s JRSOs are Leigh and Anna, they work with Mrs Purdie, our JRSO coordinator. The JRSO group work to raise awareness around road safety and take actions to make the local area as safe as possible. We have successfully held awareness events in the school and complete other activities to promote road safety.
The JRSO’s promote road safety within the school through assembly and through regular updates on their noticeboard. This ensures pupils throughout the school are aware of what road safety measures are in place here at Maidens Primary School.
