P1-3 have settled well back into school after the summer holidays. It has been lovely to see our new P1 pupils learn our school routines and become a part of our school!
Mrs Parker teaches the Primary 1’s every morning till lunch and Mrs McLean teaches Primary 2/3 every day, with Primary 1’s joining us in the afternoons. We are enjoying using both classrooms and our open area to extend our learning through play-based-learning.
We have started the term by creating our Class Charter, learning about our rights and how to respect others and our school. In Health and Wellbeing we are learning about the importance of being kind, encouraging others and valuing friendships.
This term we have been learning all about knights and castles. Everyone has shown great enthusiasm with this topic and we are keen to learn more. On the 21st of October we will be going on a class trip to Culzean Castle to explore the inside of the castle and find out some more interesting facts.
We have also been learning numbers, colours and greetings in French with Mrs Parker. We have even started answering our morning register in French!
In maths primary 1 have been focusing on numbers to 10. We have been using Ten Town to learn the songs and stories of the different number characters and working hard to form these numbers correctly.
P3/2 have been working on place value with numbers up to the thousands! We have also been learning about rounding to the nearest 10/100, shapes and their properties, patterns and a little bit of symmetry. A very busy term growing our brains!
P2/3’s Talk for Writing text this term was Jack and the Beanstalk. We have been focusing on using similes, connectives and lots of adjectives to make our writing even better.
PE is on a Monday and Thursday. We have been lucky to work with Jessica from Active Schools on a Thursday who has been teaching us badminton.
Reading books are sent home and changed regularly for homework. Spelling tasks are set on Sumdog weekly for pupils to complete at home.
Please remember to check your child’s Learning Journal regularly. Staff share photos of learning and the children are also encouraged to share work they are proud of.
