Cherry Tree Update – May 2020

Hello everybody, hope you are all safe and well. I thought it would be good to send out a wee update. I’m sure that your Key Workers have been keeping you updated but I thought I would summarise the help and support that is available to all our families.

Lockdown Project for 3-5-year olds

We are going to launch an Online Learning Project next week in which all our children can have fun with and get involved. It is linked to one of the stories that has already featured on our Facebook page.

Please take part by sending in your children’s responses via Facebook or via e-mail to your key worker.

The project will touch on literacy, numeracy, expressive arts and science.

We will be asking the children if they have any questions about it and we will try and answer them.

Watch out for this next week. Having already seen what the children have come up with we can’t wait to see their responses, photos and pictures.

Pre -School Children

The Depute Head Teacher from Dalmilling Primary will be in touch over the course of the next 2 weeks to discuss your child’s transition to P1. We appreciate this is an anxious time for the children and yourself so please don’t hesitate to ask any questions.

Cherry Tree Intake – August 2020

We have been advised that letters will be sent out by the end of next week to advise parents of the outcome of places for Cherry Tree.

Weekly Grocery Bags

We have been extremely lucky and very grateful to have received food donations from Morrisons, Salvation Army, 10/10 Trust and individuals in the Community. This has enabled us to make up grocery packs that are available via time slot every Wednesday. We will text families at the start of the week to advise and ask that you text back if you require a time slot. We are practising social distancing at this time and ask that 1 person if possible can collect.

Support in the Community

There are a number of ways to access help during lockdown. There are plenty more available on the South Ayrshire website. Should you require any help please ask your Key Worker. Here are just a few of some of the options available.

South Ayrshire Lunch boxes – food box available and delivered once a week to help with children’s lunches. Please contact key worker or call 01292 612037 to organise.

10/10 Trust – Provides families with additional food boxes. Please contact key worker or call 01292 612037 to organise.

Aberlour Trust – An organisation that can provide grants to families in need. Grants can be used for food, gas, electricity, clothes. Receipts must be provided.

Home Energy Scotland – If you are worried about your energy bills or struggling to stay warm at home during this difficult time, please call Home Energy Scotland free on 0808 808 2282. Home Energy Scotland’s free impartial advice is funded by the Scottish Government, and they’re committed to keeping you warm.

Resources for Children

Some of you have been asking for additional ideas that you can do at home. There are plenty of websites with useful information, ie:

CBebbies – copy & paste into search bar: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/cbeebies

Parentzone Scotland – copy & paste into search bar: https://education.gov.scot/parentzone

Other ideas include:

  1. Head out on a bug safari – we’re going on a bug hunt, we’re going to catch a big one. Turn over logs and peep underneath for worms, centipedes, woodlice.
  2. Colour wheel – Find flowers to match all the colours of the rainbow. Spring flowers are coming out and there’s plenty of colour on show. If it’s your garden, you could press the flowers between heavy books or make a rainbow picture with petals.
  3. Feelie Box – cardboard box with holes at side for child to put hands in to guess what the item is – ice, sugar, apple, banana etc
  4. Blindfold – put blindfold on child and to guess what the item is via smell – lemon, pepper, perfume etc.

Please stay safe and well. We are always here if you need anything.

Regards

Team Cherry Tree
