Spring Festival of Farming at Dumfries House

Primary Four and Five had a fantastic day at Dumfries House for the Spring Festival of Farming.  We were taken around their Farming School and shown around a wide range of activities and demonstrations.  We met lots of interesting people who told us their professions and skills.  We found out about soil and planting, bees, farm livestock, farm to fork, agricultural policing, farriers, game dogs and loads more!  We even saw a Royal Visitor, Prince Charles!

’I enjoyed looking at all the animals like the turkeys and the pigs.’ GM

World Book Day Author Visit

Ballantrae Primary 1-4 were invited along to Girvan’s World Book Day Author Visit.  Laura Jackson, one of the authors of the Badger the Mystical Mutt book series, came to school and introduced the children to Badger and his musical adventures.  She read a chapter from one of her books and we even got to meet Badger himself!

Primary 1-4 Andy Warhol inspired art work

Today the children critiqued the work of Andy Warhol. They spoke about the use of colour and pattern in his work. They then created their own Scottie dog pop art, considering the use of contrasting colours to make their dogs stand out. It was a challenge cutting out the dogs and producing their art in a limited amount of time but the children succeeded, even managing to mount their own work for display. They look wonderful!

First day of term 3

Primary 1/2 had a great first day back. We spent lots of time talking about what we enjoyed most from the Christmas holidays. Primary 3 and 4 joined us in the afternoon and we started our new topic all about Dinosaurs.  In PE primary 1 and 2 explored how Dinosaurs might move and used this to create our own dances.  Lots of fun was had!

Nursery and Primary 1-4 Bricc Visit (with a little help from Ceilidh, Ruby and Sarah)

This afternoon the children represented their school wonderfully by performing a selection of Christmas songs for their community at the Bricc. Their lovely singing was rewarded by a special visit from Santa. Thank you to all at the Bricc for supporting our children and arranging our special visit. The children and adults loved their gifts.
