Behaviour Management

In St James’ we believe in a supportive caring ethos in which behaviour is managed positively and consistently. It provides children with a secure framework in which they will develop skills and strategies to help them take responsibility for their own behaviour. The relationship between teacher and pupil should be similar to that between parent and child requiring mutual trust, respect and consideration.

In managing behaviour, we recognise the importance of all adults as good role models. In promoting positive relationships we will, as a school community, share the values of caring, respect, honesty, responsibility, patience and equality.

We recognise that all adults in the school should share responsibility for the good discipline within St James’.

Aims

In St. James’s Primary we aim to provide a stimulating and caring environment in where all children are offered an education of the highest quality. Each pupil is valued individually and equally and learns to become a happy, well adjusted member of society.

We aim to provide a broad, balanced coherent and progressive curriculum, which offers challenge and enjoyment and is consistent with National and Local Guidelines.

We enable our pupils to be successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens, effective contributors and to achieve the standard of attainment which is appropriate to age, aptitude and ability.

We provide equal learning opportunities for all pupils within an effective system that takes account of their educational, pastoral and social needs.

We provide a range of teaching and learning approaches, which take account of individual needs and achievements of pupils.

We promote an ethos which develops and fosters wisdom, justice, compassion and integrity and which respects and values all members of the school community, encouraging a sense of pride and commitment to global citizenship.

We provide well-organised, effective resources that support learning and teaching.

We have an established team, led by the Head Teacher, which works effectively towards the successes of the school.

Approaches

Pupils are encouraged to achieve these aims through a Golden Time process. Pupils are encouraged to respect others in order to keep their Golden Time and this is awarded at the end of a week in a quality, fun experience shaped by pupils themselves

 All pupils participate in designing their class rules based on the Rights of the Child and some classes will create ‘Class Charters’.

 During break times pupils are clear on the adults supervising them and where to report to should there be an incident

 Head Teacher and Depute Head Teacher are always available to support any pupil who has concerns or worries

 Pupils are expected to have a high standard of behaviour and will be challenged where necessary

 All staff endeavour to build positive relationships with parents. This helps to support all children to behave appropriately in school.
