🌞Summer Trip🌞

We have all enjoyed a fabulous fun day at Heads of Ayr Farm Park today and are heading home tired, but with great memories together.

Thank you to our wonderful Parent Council for organising and funding this trip for our whole school and to everyone who has supported the Parent Council events throughout the year to make this possible.

Finally another thank you to our anonymous donor who made it possible for all the children to have an ice cream on the trip today as well – they were delighted!

St. David’s Family Picnic

We may not have had the  glorious weather of last year however we had a fabulous day in the good old Scottish weather to celebrate the feast of our patron, Saint David of Scotland.

Our annual family picnic was well attended by all generations of the Saint David’s school community and our school value of happiness was evident in the faces of everyone in attendance.

A huge thank you goes to all of our pupils (especially our new P1s who will join us in August), families and staff for making this day so special and demonstrating our school values in action.

Tinkering in Primary 1

What is tinkering?

“Tinkering is about making things or fixing thinks with basic tools. It is a hands-on practical activity, that  children just love. Why do children love it? Because they’re using real tools – not toys – real tools. They’re being trusted to follow instructions, work safely and make fun things!”

Primary 1 have added a Tinkering table to their classroom this week and today had their first delivery of electrical equipment to explore. We used a range of tools to open up a DVD player and even stripped the wires down to see what was inside. There was lots of great team work and discussions going on! If you have any broken electrical equipment, tools, nuts and bolts or any other loose parts that you could donate we would be very grateful.

Primary 1 Builders!

Primary 1 had a special delivery today of some new resources!

First of all, they had a box of giant jenga to use – they decided to build the Eiffel Tower!

Unfortunately, the tower kept falling down when it got too high, so they had to problem solve and find a way of making it more steady.

“I wonder if we could tie some bricks together – that would make them stop falling over”

“I’m going to use these metal hooks to join the bricks together”

After a few tries, the St. David’s Eiffel Tower was complete!

“The blue, green and yellow bricks are heavier than the red ones”

How do you know?

“I just had one in each hand and I could feel the difference”

How could we know for sure?

“We could use scales to weigh them”

The day got even more exciting when the courier came with a delivery…of new wooden blocks! After carefully unpacking them all, everyone was excited to try them out and see what they could build.

“We’re building a house for the dragonfly”

 “I have a crown, I’m the king!”

“I can see through this one, it’s like a tunnel”

“We made a car but it has flat tyres. It even has a steering wheel”

“It’s a two-seater car”

“This tower is bigger than me!”

Is it bigger than Miss Munro?

“No, we only need one more and then it will be bigger than you!”

“We’ll put the pointy one on top because we don’t need any more, and nothing will balance on top of the point”

Problem solving, teamwork, measuring, comparing, imaginative play, story-telling, fine motor skills, shape, designing, editing, weighing, balancing…who says we just play all day?

How Good is My Learning

Don’t forget tonight is our 3rd How Good is My Learning of the session. The event will be held in the Dining Hall tonight and we’re looking forward to seeing you.

Tonight our House Captains will be asking you to complete our Annual Parent Survey. Your views are really important to us and help us to identify our strengths and also what we need to work on.

You can access it at the link below:

We will also have iPads in the hall tonight and QR codes available if you would prefer to complete it on your own device. If you would prefer a paper copy or any help to complete this, please let us know and we’ll arrange it.

Christmas magic 🎅

Primary 1 got a lovely surprise this morning when their elf, Jingle, left them all a stocking to decorate for Christmas. We had lots of fun designing them. It really got us in the mood for our ‘Jingle Bell Mile’ tomorrow at 9.10am. We hope to see you all there 🎄 🎅 ⛄
