Primary 1 Book Week Scotland Part 1!

Good morning everyone,

Today it’s Primary 1’s turn to show you a little of what we are up to for Book week Scotland. We start each day with some paired reading. We got some new books for our library so it was very exciting deciding what one to choose.

Our first  read was “Brenda is a sheep”. We loved this story but Brenda is definitely NOT a sheep!

Brenda asked us to follow up with some tasks which were very fun. We had to create a new grass food menu with lots of tasty teats for the sheep. Some delicious ideas included grass crisps, grass pizza and grass ice-cream – what a feast! Brenda found it tricky to go to sleep at the right time so we drew the time we go to bed and the time we get up on analogue clocks for her to give her some helpful tips 🙂

Then we listened to a short clip from Morag Hood who is the author of Brenda the Sheep. She asked if we could design some woolly jumpers to help all the sheep in the winter months. I’m sure you will agree we have some great designs!

Check back later for some more updates of what we are getting up to today for Book Week Scotland 2020.

See you soon,

Primary 1 🙂

Primary 1 Parental Survey

Hello everyone,

In St. David’s we teach Emotional Literacy through our PATHS programme. Our PATHS co-ordinator, Katrina, would normally have a parent information afternoon to explain the programme in more detail. However, due to the current restrictions in place this is not possible in person. We would like to offer our Primary 1 parents the opportunity to attend an online information session on November 26th. To ensure we reach as many parents as possible I have created a very short survey to find out what time may suit you best. I would be very grateful if you could take a couple of minutes to fill this out.

Many thanks,

Miss Crawford

Welcome Primary 1!

Hello Primary 1 🙂

I hope you are all safe and well. I loved meeting you all last Friday and am so excited to welcoming you back to our lovely classroom in August. I have lots of fun activities planned for you 🙂

Today I have posted a video on Seesaw that is just for you! I would like you to go and have a look as I have a very special task for you. In my video I have introduced myself and told you a little bit more about me. If you can I would love it if you sent a video back to me introducing yourself and telling me about all the wonderful things you want me to know.

Here are some ideas about things you could include in your video

  • What are you most looking forward to about starting Primary 1?
  • Who is in your family?
  • What is your favourite thing to do?
  • Do you have any worries or things your don’t like right now?
  • What was your favourite thing to do in Nursery? Maybe you could give me some ideas about things you’d like to do in Primary 1!

I am really looking forward to hearing from you all.

Have a wonderful summer holiday and I will see you all very soon.

Take care,

Miss Crawford

Tinkering in Primary 1

What is tinkering?

“Tinkering is about making things or fixing thinks with basic tools. It is a hands-on practical activity, that  children just love. Why do children love it? Because they’re using real tools – not toys – real tools. They’re being trusted to follow instructions, work safely and make fun things!”

Primary 1 have added a Tinkering table to their classroom this week and today had their first delivery of electrical equipment to explore. We used a range of tools to open up a DVD player and even stripped the wires down to see what was inside. There was lots of great team work and discussions going on! If you have any broken electrical equipment, tools, nuts and bolts or any other loose parts that you could donate we would be very grateful.

Christmas magic 🎅

Primary 1 got a lovely surprise this morning when their elf, Jingle, left them all a stocking to decorate for Christmas. We had lots of fun designing them. It really got us in the mood for our ‘Jingle Bell Mile’ tomorrow at 9.10am. We hope to see you all there 🎄 🎅 ⛄

Bedtime Stories

Primary 1 have had a great day rounding off Book Week. We started with ‘Drop Everything and Read!” in class then joined Primary 2 and Primary 6/7 in Dream Island for a bedtime story. We enjoyed snuggling up with a blanket and some toast to hear stories from the older children. What a fantastic week it has been!
