Religious and Moral Education

✝️ Religious Education at Our School
At St Charles’, Religious Education is a central part of our curriculum and daily life. As a Roman Catholic, denominational school, we are committed to nurturing the spiritual development of every child through learning experiences rooted in Christ’s gospel values of love, compassion, forgiveness, and respect.
Why Religious Education Matters
Religious Education helps children grow in faith, understand Catholic teachings, and develop a strong moral foundation. It encourages reflection, prayer, and a sense of belonging within the wider Church community. Through RE, children learn to live out the values of the Gospel in their relationships, choices, and contributions to society.
How We Teach Religious Education
Our RE curriculum is based on Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence and delivered using the Church-approved resource This Is Our Faith. This ensures that learning is:
  • Faith-Filled and Inclusive  Children explore scripture, prayer, liturgy, and Catholic traditions in ways that are meaningful and age-appropriate.
  • Gospel-Centred  Learning experiences are guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ, helping children apply gospel values in everyday life.
  • Sacramental Preparation  Pupils are supported in preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. These are celebrated annually with parents and the wider parish community, strengthening our shared faith journey.
  • Community-Connected  We have a close working relationship with the Diocese of Paisley, and our school regularly engages with parish life through Mass, prayer services, and charitable outreach.
Religious Education in Our School is not just a subject — it is a lived experience that shapes the heart, mind, and spirit of every child. We work in partnership with families and the Church to support children in growing in faith and love.
In St Charles’ Primary School we have close links with St Charles Borromeo Parish.  Fr Jim Duggan is a frequent visitor in the school and celebrates Masses, Services and Sacraments in the school.
Pupils regularly attend First Friday Mass each month.
