Hello everyone,
I hope you’re all very well. Children were told in class today but just a short reminder that we will be visiting the Primary 4 bake sale tomorrow to support their Mico Tyco project.
Pupils can bring along a small donation or amount of money in exchange for some cakes.
We are also looking forward to our school Scottish assembly in the afternoon. Tartan can be worn if you have a small item.

Homework and news for this week:
Homework
Our spelling rule is continuing with the silent (magic) e rule, focussing on o_e words such as globe and mope. We are also continuing to practice our common words.
Maths: This week’s homework is looking at partitioning numbers into tens and units. For example, the number 56 has 5 tens and 6 units.
Reading: The children chose their own books this week, appropriate to their stage. They were very excited about this and will no doubt want to discuss their choices with you at home.
News
This week on Thursday we have our Scottish assembly. Our winning poet, Ryan, will be on stage performing along with all of our other class winners in the school. Pupils can wear something tartan to school if they wish with their school uniform.
We are continuing our Katie Morag topic. We hope to have an open afternoon this term in March. This will be an opportunity for you to come into class and see what your child has been learning this term. Date and times to be confirmed as soon as possible for you to plan your schedules.
Primary 4 are having a bake sale on Thursday 1st February as part of their school topic. Primary 2 are welcome to bring some pennies in and purchase a cake on this day. Cakes will be 10p to 50p.

Homework:
Spelling: We have been learning all about Magic e and this week we will focus on o-e (hole, bone, cone, rose). Children copy their spelling words into their jotter on a Monday and should write them out twice in their homework jotter. They should also complete a sentence featuring one or more of their spelling words. There were some super sentences last week!
Reading: Reading books will be issued on Monday. Our current focus within story writing is setting, so if possible, please discuss the setting of the story with your child. We have been learning how to use adjectives and nouns to describe what we see, hear, smell, touch and taste when we are thinking about where a story is set.
Maths: We have been learning how to count in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s as well as how to double, half, share and divide. This week we will be focusing on what we already know to help us with place value and adding and subtracting with tens and units. There will be a sheet to accompany this.
News:
Scottish Poems and Assembly: I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the children’s Scottish poems last week. Everyone worked hard to prepare them and should be very proud of themselves! As well as reciting their poems in front of their peers, several pupils visited other classes to perform their poems before we selected a class winner. Our whole school Scottish assembly is on Thursday – your child may wear or bring along something tartan for the occasion.
P.E. Kit: Most pupils have now returned their full kit to school after taking it home for the holidays. Could I please ask that, if possible, your child’s clothing is labelled with their name? We have several pupils with similar pairs of gym shoes and it helps us to return the correct things to the correct person.
Engineering Project: We are almost ready to start our engineering project – thank you for all your shoebox donations!

This week I heard all of the children reciting their Scottish poetry. They were all wonderful. Well done to our children who recited in class and visited other classes also. We had 3 finalists with one overall class winner. Our class winner will perform their Scottish poem in front of the school next Friday the 2nd of February. Well done to everyone. Pictures to follow.
We recovered our lost navy skirt this week. We are now looking for a navy blue sweater. This has a child’s name on it and would be grateful if everyone could have a look for this jumper at home. Thank you in advance.

Good evening everyone! I hope you all had a lovely weekend and enjoyed playing in the snow. Homework and news is as follows:
Homework
Spelling – This weeks magic e sound is i_e as in kite, bite , fine. Words should be written out twice and one sentence that includes a selection of spelling words written in your child’s homework jotter. There have been some very creative sentences arriving on my desk this term – they are a pleasure to read.
Reading books – Reading books have been issued today. Our language focus this term is story writing, so if possible, please discuss the setting of the reading book with your child.
Wordwalls – Wordwalls were issued last week and will be heard over the coming fortnight.
Maths – This week our numeracy focus is sharing between 2 or halving. There is a sheet to complete. Children can also play Hit The Button, selecting the ‘halves’ category.
News
Today I heard most of the class reciting their Scottish poems. All the children were fantastic and it was a real pleasure to listen to them. They should all be very proud. Children will now have the opportunity to recite their poem to another class. A class winner then will be chosen and they will represent our class at the Burns assembly in school.
We are also enjoying learning about Scottish traditions and have been singing some Scottish songs. So far we have learned ‘Ye Cannae Shove Yer Granny Aff A Bus’ (complete with instruments!), and we’re also learning the Jeely Piece song. We have some super singers in P2C!
