There are only 62 sleeps until Christmas so that means it’s time to get organised! Your child has been given their Christmas card order form today. You will find their design and the product information on one side and the ordering information on the other side. Please check your child’s name and class details are correct (there are a few minor errors), and make any corrections in the relevant box.

We would really appreciate the completed forms along with exact money or a cheque made payable to ‘Bishopton Primary School’ returned to the school by Friday 27th November.

Homework

Reading – Pupils will be given a new reading book.  Please read a little each night.  In class we have been focusing on two strategies with our reading.  Looking at the picture for clues and sounding out any unfamiliar words using our phonics knowledge.

Wordwalls will continue to be checked this week and new ones issued if required.

Maths – Pupils should play a little bit of Sumdog each night if possible.  Username information can be found in the homework diary.

News

This week we have our parent appointments.  I look forward to meeting with you all.

Today we had a special treat.  We had behaved so well on our school trip that we got the opportunity to try some rainforest foods.  We learned that lots of our fruits and vegetables originally came from the rainforest.  We tried grapes, kiwi, mango, passion fruit and pomegranate.  We also learned that the cocoa bean grows in the rainforest so we had to have some chocolate too.  I was so proud of the children trying new and different foods.  Well done.

We are looking forward to our trip on Thursday.  Thank you to the helpers who have kindly agreed to come.  A letter went out today to note down if your child would like a school packed lunch on Thursday.  As Primary 2 receive free lunches they are entitled to a free packed lunch if they wish.  Alternatively you can provide one from home.  Please let us know by tomorrow if you require a school packed lunch so that we can put an order into the dinner ladies.

We also looked at the 4 seasons and matched the months to the correct seasons.  We thought about and drew different things and events that happen in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

Here is information regarding homework and news for this week.

Homework

This week’s sound is ‘ar’ as in ‘car’ or ‘star’

Children were issued new reading books last week. In class we discussed a new reading strategy for if the children are unsure of a word. It is called ‘sharp eye’, where the children look at the pictures to help them decode a word. We will cover a new strategy each week and the children will be given a small card reminding them of their strategies.

Please continue to practise the wordwalls. I will be checking these this week and new wordwalls, if needed, will be handed out next week.

This week the children will be issued the next part of the number formation homework. This can be done for Friday with the spelling homework or next week.

Amazonia

We have our Amazonia trip on Thursday.  We will leave school at 9:15 and return at 2:30.  Children should bring a packed lunch and wear school uniform.  If you have volunteered to be a helper I have put a note into the diary  to let you know if you are needed.  Thank you to all those who volunteered.  Can I please also remind you that the trip is costing £10 per child and we would ask for this money to be sent in as soon as possible.  Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Last Friday, P7H paid a visit to P2B to enjoy some reading and healthy snacks. The children loved sharing their books with each other and P2B loved hearing stories from the P7 children (and reading them stories too!) P2B are hoping to visit P7H in their  classroom very soon.

This week our spelling sound is ar as in car and farm.

Reading

We continue our reading books.  In class we have been discussing different strategies to use if we are unsure of a word.  These include looking at the pictures, sounding it out and looking at the rest of the sentence and then going back to the word.

In a few weeks during technologies time, P2C and P2R will be creating new, and improved, lunchboxes for Mr Grinling (The Lighthouse Keeper). To help with this, we would be grateful if you could send in any empty shoe boxes, cereal boxes and any other materials our lunchbox designers think they need for their design.
