Sciences

Scotland has a long tradition of scientific discovery and innovation.  Through learning in the sciences, our pupils develop their interest in, and understanding of, the living, material and physical world.  We encourage them to engage in collaborative and individual tasks, which helps them to develop inquiry, investigation and analysis skills.

Our pupils learn about a range of scientific areas including:

  • Planet Earth
  • Forces, electricity and waves
  • Biological systems
  • Materials
  • Topical science

It is our aim that by participating in these activities our pupils:

  • become curious and care about the world we live in
  • develop skills for learning, life and work
  • improve their practical techniques
  • use scientific vocabulary
  • learn the importance of working safely
  • talk about the impact of sciences on society
  • express opinions and make decisions on a range of issues
  • develop a lifelong interest in the sciences
  • consider future careers in the sciences and the technologies.
