Talk for Writing
What is Talk for Writing?
How we use it at Dargavel ELCC?
At Dargavel ELCC, all children have access to talk for writing. Throughout the playroom, you may notice some small hessian bags, these are called Bags of Imagination which are full of story props. This is an adult led experience that encourages the children to use the story props and their imagination to create their own story.
Through Talk for Writing, we have developed our community link to the library, this is called Talk for Writing Travels. This is where a group of children are invited along for a 6-week block of going to the library to focus on and move through the different stages of Talk for Writing. At the end of the 6-week block, parents are invited along to see their child’s progression within the programme.
If you have any questions, our Talk for Writing ambassadors are Elizabeth and Alison.
How you can use it at home.
At home, you could create your own bag of imagination or ask your child to collect some of their toys and create their own story with you, this can be adapted to if you go a walk within the community for example, collecting twigs, leaves or retelling/creating a story as you pass through different elements of the community.
If you do anything at home, our staff would love to see and hear about it, please don’t hesitate to send any photos you take or make into the nursery.
