What is Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library? 

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting programme, created by the singer Dolly Parton, to encourage early reading and literacy for babies to age 5. Within Renfrewshire council, the programme is currently offered to all children aged 2 – 5. Each month a book from DPIL is sent via post to your home address with your child’s name on the letter. Each book sent is age and stage appropriate to your child. When you first register your child, you will recieve a welcome book and then one book every month thereafter, on your child’s 5th birthday they will receive a graduation book to end their amazing collection of DPIL books. 

How we use it at Dargavel ELCC? 

At Dargavel ELCC, we receive the same books as your child will at home. When the books first come through the post, we invite the children to open the parcel with us, this encourage a lot of familiarity from home and discussion about what the book is about and where it came from. Every so often we have a visit from Dolly Parton. When she comes, we make an extra special effort to highlight just how important reading books with our children is. An example of this was a Stay and Play we hosted in March 2026 and Dolly came along for the week, she brough cowboy hats and BookBug teamed up with her to include one of her books in the session. 

At the end of every month, we post on our J2Easy platform digital learning packs for the books you have received. This is to give you some ideas for further learning at home and mimic what we are doing within the nursery using these books. The staff love to see what you have been up to so please don’t hesitate to send in any photos of you completing some of the experiences.
