Good evening everyone,

We are looking forward to seeing all of the children tomorrow!
Thanks and see you in the morning!

Good morning everyone, today is the final day of the school term and the final day of school in 2021!
We have a Christmas hamper and other Christmas goodies to give away today. Each family in the school has been allocated a number and at 12noon I will randomly select a number and that family will be our winner. (This will be posted for everyone to see!)
If you are unable to come to school to collect your prize then I will drop it off to you, at home, at a convenient time over the next few days.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your continued help and support this year. There will be further mitigations and changes to rules when we return in January and I will post these for you all prior to our return. They are not for consideration just now.
For now, I would like to wish all of you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Be kind to each other!
Mr M
From Thursday 6 January 2022, all primary 5 pupils will be able to receive a universal school meal and it won’t cost parents a penny.
P5s will join P1, P2, P3 and P4 in receiving a universal school meal as part of the Scottish Government’s expansion of healthy meals to all primary pupils.
Check www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/schoolmeals to see the AMEY school meal menu.
At Cochrane Castle, we are very fortunate to have such a unique school name and we like to celebrate the ‘castle’ element as much as possible.
We have our Kings and Queens awards to celebrate children that demonstrate our school values and now, to coincide with the relaunch of our houses, we have our weekly Wizard Awards to celebrate children who have excelled in areas of the curriculum. One Wizard award will be given each week from each class. The children can be the Maths Wizard, the PE Wizard, the Science Wizard, the History Wizard and so on.
Our Wizards will receive a special star shaped badge in the colour of their house, a special certificate and an invitation to a special banquet with Mr Mothersole where they can have a drink, some crisps and a chocolate or sweet treat of their choice.
Today was the first special banquet and our first weekly Wizards had a great time.
Congratulations to the Wizards from Topaz –
Connor Toman, Erin McDougall and James Adams
Congratulations to the Wizards from Emerald –
Robyn Mitchell and Shaun Mitchell
Congratulations to the Wizards from Sapphire –
Mirren McBeth and Lily Houston
This week at Cochrane Castle we relaunched our School Houses.
After many suggestions from our families, the children in school finally settled on the theme of precious stones for the House names. Our Houses are now Topaz (yellow), Sapphire (Blue), Ruby (Red) and Emerald (Green).
Our new House Captains are –
Finlay Rayner – Topaz
Kelsey Alexander – Emerald
Brooke Fielding – Sapphire
Charlie Campbell – Ruby
Our first points tally will be given on Monday with the winning house for the month of December receiving a house prize in January. Our house prizes will be chosen by the children and the House Captains will report back to Mrs McLeod.
The children have been trying extremely hard this week to gain as many house points as possible as they all know – ‘What do points make…PRIZES!’
Good luck to all the houses for the month of December and the rest of the school year.
We have purchased school fleeces and jackets for every child in the school. They are of a very high quality and the children are very pleased with the new additions. These items will be kept in school and we have a cleaning rota to keep them clean and fresh.
Due to spending an increased amount of time outdoors and because we keep the windows of our classes open to meet covid regulations, we felt the fleeces would be an invaluable extra layer of warmth for the children.
We also bought waterproof, fleece lined jackets for the children to wear outside for either activities with their class or during break or lunch time. We felt this would be a welcome alternative to their own winter jacket and stop so many parents having to wash jackets on a daily basis!
There is no requirement for your child to wear the school provided items at break or lunch but when they head out on a school activity with their class, everyone will wear the same jacket to help identify our pupils.
Lots of the children opted to wear their new fleece at break today and it was lovely to see so many children taking pride in their school and running around with the Cochrane Castle badge on display!
Primary 1 registrations will be live online from Monday 1st to Friday 5th November.
The link to the form will appear on the page just prior to the registration period going live.
