March has seen a few changes to our learning opportunities for children.
In order to improve our technology experiences we have bought a brand new touchscreen interactive promethean board and installed an ipad station within the class. We continue to seek opportunities to develop problem solving, curiosity and investigative skills, therefore we have introduced our “tinker tables”. The tinker tables currently have wooden model making activities for the children and very soon the children will be introduced to real life tools and old/broken technology items to “tinker” with.
Its been a busy January! New girls and boys have started and they have all settled in very well. The children have taken advantage of our snow days and have also been learning a little bit about Robert Burns. There has been a tremendous amount of constructing over the past month by our budding architects, builders and problem solvers….keep designing as you surprise us everyday!
We had fabulous fun at our nursery party. Pirate Pete the magician treated us to a show which was great! We played party games and we had a lovely party lunch with all our friends. At the end of a great day Santa heard us sing his favourite song “Jingle Bells” and visited us with a present for all the girls and boys.
Congratulations to all of our children who took part in the Christmas concerts. The audience of parents, grandparents, carers and friends were treated to 2 Santa themed songs. The nursery staff are very proud of you all. You were fabulous!
The nursery children have been learning about Diwali. One of our parents and one of our grandparents visited the nursery to speak to the children about Diwali and how they celebrate it. The children listened to a story, they listened and joined in with a Diwali song and they looked at pictures of their friend visiting a temple.
There was a big buzz in nursery today, as it was dress up day at Bridge of Weir Nursery Class. Well done to everyone for all your wonderful costumes and disguises.
Thank you to everyone who attended our nursery open evening last night. If you were unable to attend, please feel free to pop in and we will show you around our learning areas and answer any of your questions about nursery life. Parents days will be held in November for individual children, details will follow shortly.
Our new lending library is up and running. Please feel free to visit as many times as you would like throughout the week/month. Please remember to sign one book out and in on return.
We will be purchasing more books such as : recipe books, crafts, poetry etc in the near future. Feel free to let us know if there are any books or a series of books that we could consider buying for our lending library.
A big welcome and hello from all our returning and new children at Bridge of weir Nursery Class.
We have been very busy over the past few weeks. We have been making new friends, learning our nursery rules and having great fun In our playrooms which have a new layout for this session.
Pop in and ask a member of staff to show you around.
We are very proud of our big girls and boys who are going to school in August. We celebrated with their mums, dads, grandparents and carers.
The children sang their presentation song “Thank You Bridge of Weir” followed by the presentation of school ties and certificates. To end this special afternoon everyone enjoyed a special sweet treat, strawberry tarts and lemonade for the adults and chocolate biscuits and juice for all our nursery children.
We had a fabulous day at our nursery sport activity day. The children took part in a variety of activities such as “beat the goalie”, “10 pin waffles”, “target spot”, “giant kerplunk” and we even had a dancethon. The children also enjoy a well earned ice-cream to finish off their day.
Thank you to all our parent helpers who have helped us over the past year.
Some parents have popped in to share their knowledge of their job with the children. eg One of our parents is a dentist and he spoke to the children about his work as a dentist and about how important it is to keep out teeth clean and healthy. We are also keen to have parent helpers who are happy to share a skill or hobby with the children or to help out with the day to day activities within the nursery class. A new diary for this will be displayed in September 2018.
We have also had a few parents who have came in to read a story to the children. This has been a lovely experience for the child of the parent reading the story and for the rest of the nursery children. This is normally at the end of the AM or PM session for 10-15 minutes. We will be looking for more volunteers for this after the summer from September onwards.
This is a live link to this year’s pantomime performance! We’re loving watching The Wizard of Oz – so far we’ve met Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Lion and the Wicked Witch of the West. Lots of laughs, songs to join in with and our Christmas lunch to look forward to too!
We had great fun this week when Kirstie from Silly Science came to visit and children had the chance to join in some amazing experiments. This was real hands on learning and everyone was fascinated to see how materials changed when they were mixed together. They maybe didn’t realise they were learning about polymers but they loved making glitter slime!
Amazing costumes were the order of the day for our Fancy Dress Party this week when spooky skeletons, fairies, vampires and superheroes all joined in the fun.
We were delighted to welcome to the school some of the children who will be starting Primary 1 in August 2017. They brought along their Mums and Dads to try out our school lunches, met their P6 buddies and spent some time taking part in a range of activities in one of our P1 classrooms. It was hard to tell who had the most fun – our P6 pupils who did a brilliant job of welcoming the younger children or the nursery pupils who looked like they could easily have spent the day here!
