Last week for homework you looked at the work of Georges Seurat who uses Pointillism in his paintings (just like the one above). Pointillism is a technique which uses small, distinct dots of colour to form the image.
Today in class you used the same technique to create your own version of both a male and female brown trout. I am looking forward to showing your finished creations off in a couple of weeks at Parents’ Night.
Here are a few photographs of you hard at work.
Dear Parent/carer,
We would like to organise parts for the WW2 Show on Tuesday 21st March and a few pupils have mentioned they will be unable to make the show due to other commitments. As this is a one-off event, could you please discuss if your child is able to make the show. If they are not, could you please write a note in their diary or post a comment on the Blog to let us know. This will help us when we are allocating parts.
Many thanks,
Miss McDowall & Mr McAvoy
Yesterday we looked at the biology of the brown trout. We learned about all of the different parts on a trout’s body. They have quite a few fins. Can you remember the names of any? Each fin is used for a different reason. Can you remember why they have them?
To help remember the different parts we are making 3D brown trout. Each fish will then be labelled showing all of the different parts. First of all you had to draw the outline of a trout and then paint on all of the different markings found on their bodies. The trickiest part was painting on the correct side for some of you!
The fish are looking fantastic and next week you will get the chance to complete them and show them off on your wall spaces. Well done P5H, it was lovely working with you.

This afternoon we had our final German Masterclass. Many of you managed to complete your Paul Klee painting and they look wonderful . We added the background to the paintings using watercolours and it really changed the whole look.
A few of you started creating your own version of another of Klee’s painting: Lemon Harvest. Again, they were looking great!
Well done everyone, you worked incredibly hard on your paintings over the last couple if weeks. Here are a few photographs from today’s Masterclass and of the completed paintings. Let me know what you think of them.
Today we had another German Masterclass with Vincent. Once again, Vincent introduced you to the work of Paul Klee. Klee was a Swiss-German artist who used different media to create his paintings: oil paint, watercolour ink, pastels and etchings.
Today we used oil pastels to recreate one of his designs. Next week you will be adding watercolours to the background to complete them. You worked very quickly today so next week we will be able to move onto another style of art.
Here are a few photographs from this afternoon.
Once again I am a very proud teacher! Your “McCoo” pictures are finished and on the wall. They are absolutely fabulous! What a wonderful job! Please show your finished picture to someone at home.
I am so sorry Lucy L. Your coo picture obviously didn’t upload with the rest. Here it is now. Isn’t is fabulous?
Today we had our first whole Primary 5 music session. Mrs Hughes put us through our paces to ensure we were experts at keeping the beat to some of the songs Mrs Lyle taught us last week. We played some more games to help us. Well done to the majority of you who were actively involved and were giving it your all.
It was lovely to see both classes mixing with one another. I am looking forward to our next session together in a couple of weeks. Here are a few photographs from this morning’s session.
Today as part of our mini Scotland topic, we were looking at the artwork by a famous Scottish artist, Steven Brown,. We had to consider how he uses bold colours to create lively and bright paintings.
We focused on Steven Brown’s well known series of Highland cattle paintings known as the McCoo’s. First we looked at some examples of Brown’s artwork and discussed the unique features of each of the cows. You all shared very interesting points about the similarities and differences between Brown’s artwork and were able to consider some of the techniques which he uses to create his paintings.
You all worked really hard on your pieces today, which we will complete tomorrow. Once everyone has finished, we will peer assess each other’s artwork, looking at its strengths and areas to work on. I can’t wait to see these masterpieces completed. They look fantastic!
Here are a few photographs of some of your McCoo masterpieces being created.
See you all tomorrow,
Miss Stanage
Today in P.E. you were put into groups to begin creating your very own Latin dance …….. and what fun you had! It was smiles all around (well, nearly). There was such disappointment when we finished for the day. I am so pleased that you are showing such enthusiasm for this task as I know dancing is not everyone’s favourite thing to do.
Each group has (already) come up with the starting steps for your dance which is just amazing. Well done! We even had some of our boys showing the girls in their group some fantastic moves to include.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with next week. Here are a few photographs from today’s session.
