Big Walk and Wheel 2022: 21st March to 1st April

Big-Walk-and-Wheel-2022–parent-letter

Get set… we’re taking part in Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel 2022 (the new name for Big Pedal), the UK’s largest inter-school cycling, walking, wheeling and scooting challenge. The challenge runs from 21st March to 1st April. It’s free and we would love everyone to be involved.

What do you need to do?

Encourage your child(ren) to walk, use a wheelchair, scoot or cycle to school on as many days as possible during the event. We will also schedule some activities in the playground for each class throughout the week.

Including everyone

We want to make sure that everyone can get involved in Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel.

We know there may be things which make it more difficult for some pupils to take part than others. If you want to discuss more about your child(ren)’s specific needs, please contact Mr McAvoy and we will make sure that there is a way for your child to take part.

There are only a few simple rules –

-All children must wear a helmet on a bike.
-Bikes and scooters should be wheeled through the playground on the way in and out of school and on the ashy path.
– Each class will get a chance to walk, run, cycle and scoot with their friends in the playground throughout the week.

For more information about the event go to www.bigwalkandwheel.org.uk.
Enjoy the challenge!

Best wishes

Mr McAvoy

Volunteers needed for British Science Week

Good Morning. We hope you have had a lovely weekend in the sun.

We are very excited to celebrate British Science Week this year at Bishopton Primary. We are looking for some parent/guardian volunteers who work in any STEM industry to possibly come in to do a short presentation on their job with classes in the school. You can deliver this in any way you choose. If you have a presentation it can be sent to the teacher to play on your arrival. If you would like to volunteer, can you please send a note to your child’s teacher along with a method of contact so we can get in touch to arrange a date and time to visit. We are super excited to hear all about your amazing careers!

Thanks

World Book Day – 03.03.22

We are looking forward to celebrating World Book Day tomorrow at Bishopton Primary School. There are lots of activities planned throughout the day and we are looking forward to hearing about your reading. This year our theme for the day is based around the book – The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt.  If possible, your child has been asked to wear a specific colour. If your child does not want to dress up then this is ok too. If your child does not have anything in the specific colour then they can create something in class to wear, if they wish .

We hope everyone has a lovely day, sharing their reading and commemorating the day in class by partaking in activities.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Judo Visit

Pupils in Primary 3-7 were very lucky to have Paul, Rebecca and Rebecca from Clyde Judo Club visit last week.

All of the pupils received a Judo taster session during PE which was very successful. The pupils learned all about Judo, Japanese culture and had the opportunity to try new skills.

It was great for our pupils to meet Rebecca L, a former Hawks House Captain, who started learning Judo in Primary school and has went on to have a very successful career so far!

Thank you Clyde Judo for the wonderful experience.

Engineering Challenge

Matthew from Doosan Babcock visited Primary 2 and Primary 6 to set the pupils their Engineering Challenge and to tell them about the world of Engineering. Matthew is a former pupil, and we are very lucky to have him visit the school countless times over the last few years to help develop links to the world of work.

The Primary 2 classes will create a shoebox model car linked to the Rainforest whilst the Primary 6 classes will create a remote controlled car.

We cannot wait to see the end products!

European Day of Languages

Good afternoon,

On Wednesday 23rd February, we celebrated European Day of Languages. Each stage enjoyed learning all things French with a focus on French culture.

P1P and P1S were learning all about the history of Versailles and there was a lot of great discussion going on. They watched a video and loved finding out about the palace. P1 were also playing circle games to learn their French numbers.

P2K had lots of fun learning all about French colours.

P3AM enjoyed learning about the French artist Henri Rousseau and enjoyed creating collage pictures inspired by him.

P4M were learning about going to Primary School in France. Children start pre-school at the age of 3 and attend primary school at the age of 6. We found out French children don’t wear a school uniform. They have a longer day – usually 8.30am to 4.30pm. They either go home for lunch or have a school lunch, but don’t have the option of taking a packed lunch to school. Also, the children only attend school for half a day every Wednesday. They have longer holidays, and the new school session begins in September.

P4R learned all about French landmarks and created some amazing models and pictures.

P5A were learning about Louis Pasteur and found his contribution to vaccines particularly interesting given COVID-19. They recalled facts about him and used their knowledge of French colours to identify and draw fungi, bacteria and all things microbiology.

P6S looked at April fools day traditions around Europe and made some fish for Poisson D’Avril.

Finally, P7C and P7CK learned all about Bastille Day. We learned about why this day is so important and celebrated in France each year on July 14th. Then, we looked at Graffiti art. We watched a short video to see how popular graffiti art is, particularly in Paris. Inspired by this, we then created our own graffiti art based on some French words and our names.

A massive well done to everyone on another successful languages day!

World Book Day 2022 – 3rd March 2022

This year instead of dressing up as a book character, we are basing our theme on the book – The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt. I have added a link below of the book being read aloud. Your child will be able to partake in activities based on the book throughout the day and we will hopefully get a picture of all the pupils together to commemorate the day.

Each class has been given a colour/theme which they are asked to dress in for that day. If you do not have the specific colour, your child can make a sash or hat in school on the day.

Changes to COVID Mitigations

Dear Parent/Carer,

Changes were made on the 1st February to the Coronavirus (COVID-19): Guidance on reducing the risks from COVID- 19 in schools and therefore we will be making some changes to the current mitigations that we have in place. These changes will take effect from Thursday 17th February (Pupil return date after February weekend).

The new guidance states that there is no longer a requirement for a staggered start and end to the day. As a result, we will now be opening the doors to the school at 8.55 a.m. to allow pupils enter the classroom and wash their hands for a 9.00 a.m. start. Doors will be closed at 9.00 a.m. Please note any pupil arriving after this time should enter through the main entrance.

All pupils, including P1 and their siblings, will finish at 3.15 p.m. As the guidance for adult social distancing and wearing face coverings has not yet changed, we ask all adults in the playground to continue to stay at least 1m from adults in other households and to wear a face covering unless exempt. We appreciate that this may be different from the wider guidance for society, but this is still the guidance for Education settings.

The rest of our school day will return to more normal timings. Morning break will be 10.30-10.45 a.m., lunch will be 12.15 -1.15 p.m. There will be no afternoon break and school will finish at 3.15 p.m.

Parents are still only permitted into school if necessary to discuss their child’s needs. General parent events are still not permitted at this stage.

As pupils no longer need to stay in class bubbles, we will be looking to restart after school clubs. Information on individual clubs will follow in due course.

School lets are restarting so other community groups may return to use the school premises outwith the school day.

Enhanced hygiene, including handwashing and enhanced cleaning, remains in place. Open windows and doors to increase ventilation are also still in place, so pupils should continue to wear layers.

Parents/carers should continue to notify the school of any positive test results. Those who test positive or who are identified as a high risk or low risk contact should continue to follow the appropriate self-isolation guidance which can be found at https://www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/infections-and-poisoning/coronavirus-covid-19/test-and-protect/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-for-individuals-with-possible-coronavirus-infection

As always this is subject to change. Mitigations can be reintroduced or removed at any time  dependent on the prevalence of the virus in society.

Should you require any other information please call the school on 0300 300 0147
