Just a reminder that Wednesday 26th September will be a non-uniform day as we will be celebrating European Day of Languages 2018.
Pupils are asked to wear house colours – Eagles- yellow, Hawk-green, Falcons-blue and Ospreys-red.
Children will be involved in a variety of activities with the rest of their house to celebrate all things French and to explore why it is useful to know more than one language.
We look forward to hearing from some specially invited speakers on their experiences with languages.
If you are interested in helping your child with their Modern Foreign language learning at home, you can follow this link – ideas for parents and families.
Due to the amber weather warning, the pupils will be staying indoors at lunchtime. Renfrewshire Council will advise us if any other action is required. Thank you.
Every day different schools from Renfrewshire were chosen as winners and I am so pleased to say we were winners on Friday for ‘engagement in family learning’.
Well done to everyone who helped us with this. It was great to see so many friends and family getting behind the school and promoting numeracy and mathematics in such a positive way. Thank you for all the support. Click the link below to see the tweet from the Renfrewshire Attainment Team.
What an amazing Maths Week we have had and what a brilliant way to end it… by counting to 100 and dancing in the rain! If you haven’t got Twitter, click the link below to see the WHOLE school in action. Thank you to all of the pupils, parents and staff who showed such enthusiasm and passion for maths and numeracy this week. It has been fabulous! I think Fraser from P4M said it best as he was leaving at the end of the day, “Next year we should have a Maths month!”
Thank you for all of you who were able to come along and join us for the Maths Open Afternoon. The pupils were absolutely buzzing to welcome you and show you some of the ways they learn and practise number and maths. We would appreciate if you could take a few minutes to complete a survey to let us know your thoughts on the afternoon and what we can do to improve future sessions. Click the link below to complete the survey.
Our active School clubs are starting back next week. If you would like to attend any of these fantastic clubs please log onto the following website to register.
If you have any problems please contact Mr McAvoy in the school.

P6/5 will be in the Dinner Hall so can enter from the Main Infant door. P6M will be in the Gym Hall so can enter formthe Main Office door.
Can I request that you drive or park and stride, if possible? This will minimise congestion during your visit and make it easier when leaving at the end of the day.
We are looking forward to you engaging with your child in the many fun maths games and activities we have planned!
Tomorrow we have a full day on fun maths and numeracy activities. The classes will all visit other teachers to learn about maths in a variety of ways. Here are a few of the activities to get us engaged in our learning:

A reminder about the Open Afternoon for parents/carers from 2-3pm.
Please visit the websites below for ideas of games and activities to do during Maths Week and every other week! Remember to take photos and tweet them or send them into school to show off how you use maths and numeracy in your everyday lives.
How Did My Family Use Numeracy and Maths Last Night?
The purpose of this task is to become aware of how we use numeracy or mathematics in our daily lives.
Please discuss with your child the different ways in which the family use maths skills e.g. telling the time to go to bed or measuring ingredients for a meal etc.
Pupils are asked to record some of the ways they or their family used maths e.g. write, draw or make representations.
The variety of ways of using maths will be discussed in class throughout the week.
The Sumdog Maths Week Contest starts tomorrow at 8am and ends on Thursday 13th September at 8pm. Please try your best to play every day to help your class climb the leader board. It would be great if we could get in the top 5… or let’s aim higher and get a number one spot!
Next week, 10-16th September is the second Maths Week Scotland. Our big theme this year is engagement. We want you to become involved in promoting and celebrating maths and numeracy with your child and the school. We have a few ways you can do this:
We are having an open afternoon on Thursday 13th September from 2-3pm. Please visit your child’s class to play, learn and experience maths in a fun and engaging way. It would be appreciated if only one adult per child visits the classroom and suggest you walk to the school or park a short distance from the school to minimise congestion.
The maths homework for the week is to show us and discuss how you used maths and numeracy in every day, real life situations. You can send photos or evidence into school or tweet us using twitter handles: @BishoptonPS @AttainRen and #MWSREN
P2-7 pupils have been entered into the Sumdog Renfrewshire Maths Contest which starts on Friday 7th at 8am to Thursday 13th at 8pm. Your child should have their username and password.
We look forward to welcoming you to the school next Thursday and for your support during Maths Week Scotland.
As you will be aware roadworks have commenced this morning on Greenock Road and are scheduled to last all week. The diversion is along Old Greenock Road past the school. As a result cones have been placed along Old Greenock Road indicating that this is a no waiting zone.
Please take notice of this and do not leave your car unattended as this will ensure the smooth movement of cars through the village while the works are taking place.
Our community police and wardens will be dropping by throughout the week to ensure that the traffic keeps moving and that our children are safe during this period of increased traffic on Old Greenock Road. If walking to school is an option this week please do consider this.
Thank you for your patience and help in this as we try to ensure that everyone is safe on our roads this week.
We will be celebrating the second Maths Week Scotland on 10th-16th September. As part of this event we are having an open afternoon. You are invited to visit your child(s)’ class from 2-3pm on Thursday 13th September. Every class will be playing a variety of maths and numeracy games and you are welcome to join in! We anticipate a large volume of visitors so we would appreciate if you could either leave your car at home or park a short distance from the school to minimise congestion.
Your child will only have maths homework that week and P2-7 pupils are entered into the Renfrewshire Sumdog Competition from 7th-13th September. Your child should already have their usernames and passwords so click the link below and allow them to practise before the contest begins!
We have many fun learning experiences planned for all pupils and encourage you join in at home by taking photos of maths and numeracy in real life and get tweeting! @BishoptonPS
More information will follow aout what we are doing to celebrate all things numbers and maths during Maths Week, so stay tuned!
Unfortunatley, the school phone lines are down at the moment. We would hope that this problem will be rectified by Monday morning . However, should you have difficulty contacting the school please email our enquires page or pop in to see us.
Your child was issued with a flu nasal spray letter today. P1s will probably get their copies on Monday. Please complete and return these ASAP. Thank you in advance.
After a very difficult interview process we are delighted to present our new House Captaincy team. The pupils visited the classes today and can’t wait to get started. Well done to every one who interviewed, we are very proud of all 42 candidates.
We are currently planning Bishopton Primary STEM week for the week beginning 1st October 2018. We are planning a variety of different classroom challenges and would love to hear from STEM practitioners.
If you could come in and tell us a little bit about your job and training or give us a hand with some of the challenges we would love for you to visit us.
Please get in touch with the school office or write a note in your child’s diary and I will get in touch.
