We had lots of fun taking part in the Eco drama with bag girl! We became recycling superheroes and learnt how to minimise our waste and reduce, reuse and recycle. Thanks bag girl for all your help! ♻️

P5S – Eco Week: Taylor Wimpey Visit
Today Graeme, Erin and Laura from Taylor Wimpey came in to chat with us about the new techniques they now use on new development sites to ensure they are being eco friendly. Can you remember the names of any? We also learned some really interesting facts like how humans cannot survive without five particular animals. Who remembers what they are? Have a look at the photos below and you might just find out the answers.
We then had the opportunity to take part in three different activities based around what we had been learning. Erin showed you how an eco friendly drainage system works. Can you tell someone at home how it all works?
Laura had you working hard to complete a wordsearch. Three lucky winners walked away with some great prizes!
Graeme had you trying to match some pictures with the environmentally friendly techniques we had been learning about and use our new vocabulary correctly in a passage. How did your group do? Were you one of the super fast groups to complete Graeme’s task?
P5S – Big Pedal Day 4
Day 4 of our Big Pedal and numbers are still rising. Keep it up P5S! Once again we were very lucky with the weather as it was rather pleasant out. Chloe S and Mirren were our photographers today.
Eco songs
We are learning a couple of eco songs for our special eco assembly on Monday. We hope you enjoy listening to them.
Well done to those who have done extra eco homework this week.
Big Pedal Update
We are now 17th place in the UK. Well done everyone.
P3F were today’s daily winner.
Please remember that you should not be cycling or scooting on the paths to school or in the playground unless you are with your teacher.
Planting some seeds
A visitor came into P6 today to help us plant some seeds! The seeds came from lots of different vegetables such as green beans, peppers, chillies, beetroot, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. We had great fun planting all the veg and look forward to them growing!
Community Cafe 22/3/17
P6 had the honour of hosting the community cafe this week and thoroughly enjoyed entertaining the visitors. They performed a song from ‘Oliver’ from the previous topic on Victorians. Then they played some board games and showed off some reading books. Visitors were also able to take away a dessert in a little glass jar, which was of course recyclable or reusable due to it being Eco week! Here are some pictures of the afternoon! Thanks to everyone who came along and thanks to Miss Burnett and the house captains for all their help and organisation!
Archery Lessons
Michelle from active schools was able to give us a lesson on Archery on Wednesday! We really enjoyed learning how to use the bow and arrows and we also got 4 bullseyes!
Big Pedal
We have been enjoying our big pedal times this week and we have been lucky with the weather so far. We are loving the exercise! Here are some pictures of us so far.
P4M – My Sustainable House
We have been enjoying playing this sustainable living game in class this week. Here is a link so you can play it at home.

P4M Eco Week-The Asparagus Hut
Hi! We are continuing to enjoy a very busy week. On Tuesday, James from The Asparagus Hut came to talk to us about his job and local Scottish produce. It was very interesting to see all the wonderful varieties of fruit and vegetables he had and James told us lots of cool facts and information. We hope to see him again soon. Here are some pictures from the session.
Busy week
Yesterday Mr Ritchie, a local farmer, came to talk to us about the animals and crops he has on his farm.
Some people had their faces painted for Comic Relief.
Today we had an eco fair. There were different activities organised by all the different eco groups in the school eg litter, school grounds, waste minimisation, food and health, transport, biodiversity, energy and water.

Day Three Of Eco Week and Big Pedal
P5S – Mushroom Planting
As part of our Eco Week some of you had the opportunity to get your hands dirty when you planted some mushrooms this afternoon. The compost was rather smelly but that didn’t stop a few of you digging deep. We have put the container somewhere dark and we will check on it in a few days (6 to be precise) to see if anything has happened.
As discussed in class, one of you may take our mushrooms home to look after over the Easter break, if you wish, as we shouldn’t really leave them in class unattended. The chances are they won’t survive if we do! If you would like to do so, please bring a note in from someone at home giving you permission. Obviously if you are going away over the holidays, it wouldn’t be a very good idea for you to take them home.
If you didn’t get a chance to plant today, don’t worry as we have other activities planned for later in the week where you might just get your hands dirty too.
P5S – Archery
Today the Eco Committee organised for us to take part in an archery session led by Michelle from Active Sports. What fun we had! There are quite a few rules to follow to help fire the arrow correctly but I think everyone managed it very well. Kate even managed to get a bullseye!
Hopefully Michelle will be able to organise a club in school for you to attend. Watch this space!
P5S – Big Pedal Day 3
Day 3 of Big Pedal and we had even more bikes and scooters brought in. Well done! It was a lovely day for a cycle today and we were very lucky that the sun was shining for us. Mirren and Lily were our photographers today. They were a little snap happy as there were quite a number of photographs taken. Here are a few!
Big Pedal Update
Another good day with lots more bikes and scooters. At the moment, we are 27th out of all the schools taking part in the UK (2nd in Scotland !!!) Well done. Today’s winning class was P4M. Keep up the good work!
Target – 1st in Scotland – come on Bishopton.
Eco Week – Day 3
We had another eventful day today. We continued with Big Pedal and sang an Eco song. We also learned about the important work of Scottish Water. We now understand the importance of the 3Ps when referring to what to flush down the toilet and also how we should not waste water by ensuring we turn off taps when not in use. We even completed a water challenge where we had to guess which cup contained water from a tap and which cup contained water from a bottle. We all agreed it was very hard to tell as they tasted very similar. This confirmed the quality of the water we have in our country and how lucky we are to have such a resource.
Here are some pictures from today.
P7M – Big Pedal Wednesday
P7M – Archery
This afternoon, we had another fun activity arranged by the Eco Committee – archery! Michelle from Active Schools, showed us how to safely hold and load the bow with the arrow. She showed us how to position our shoulder when pulling back the string. We had some Robin Hoods amongst the class and a few who need to work on their aim because the arrows splatted on the windows, rather than on the target board! We all had fun regardless of the outcome. Thank you to Michelle and Kasia.
P7M – Scottish Water Visit
This morning we were lucky to have a visit from Scottish Water. They told us about water production: the cost of processing it and what we can do to help. The main message was about what to flush down the toilet – The 3 Ps! Pee, Poo and Paper. Other products can block the pipes and cause lots of damage.
Thank you to Douglas and Ian for coming to tell us about what we can do to help keep Scottish water one of the tastiest in the world!
P5H – Big Pedal
P5S – Big Pedal Day 2
Day 2 of our Big Pedal and numbers were up today – well done! Hopefully we can increase those numbers again tomorrow. It was very cold while we were out this morning but everyone was still smiling. Mirren was our photographer today.
