I have stuck each child’s password for the Sumdog website in the back page of their homework diary. Please let me know if the children have any issues when trying to log on.
Thank you very much for all of the recyclable items which you have sent in for us to build junk model robots as part of our topic. We will be continuing to collect items next week, as we will be making our models at the end of the week.
We are hoping to construct junk models next week in class as part of our topic. I have been collecting boxes, cartons, cardboard tubes, and other various household waste. If the children could bring in any items which would normally be recycled, I would be very grateful.
Tomorrow the children will also receive their feedback slips in relation to their topic talks. Thank you again for your support at home with these talks and I hope you enjoy reading the feedback.
-spelling sound ss/zz for example, dress and buzz
-one fiction reading book
– practising poem pieces
The children have also glued reading logs into the inside page of their homework diaries today. This will allow you to see which colour band your child is on at each point of the school year.
Well done to all of the children who presented their talk today in class. Therefore, the following children will present their talks tomorrow:

The children will be presenting their favourite toys this week and discussing them with the class. I am aware that many of the children have been practising their talks at home and I look forward to hearing each and every one of them. If children who are presenting on Tuesday wish to bring their toy tomorrow and keep it in class, that is no problem.
Lastly, I would like to thank you all for your feedback and lovely comments in response to the children’s Learning Journey Profiles, and your support with preparing for our topic talks.
We had a great time visiting Scotland Street School today. We were able to learn more about toys and games from the past, in relation to our topic. The children were also given an experience of the way that a classroom would have been organised in the past.
Thank you very much to our parent helpers for coming along. Here are some photos from our visit.
We had more great traditional toys for Show and Tell today! The children enjoyed seeing both of the traditional toys from the past which we have been talking about in our topic.
I have also sent home the children’s lines from the poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’, which they will be performing at our Nativity. We will be practising in class over the next few weeks. However, I will ensure that the children take their parts home each day, to allow them to practise at home if they wish.
The children brought some great traditional toys and parent’s childhood toys into class today for Show and Tell. We have had great fun learning about the toys, and playing with them in class as part of our toys topic! Today we were learning about toys from different cultures and countries. We started painting our own designs on our Russian dolls.
We have been enjoying our Toys topic. We have been learning about toys from the past and comparing them to toys from the present. Last week we started learning about how different toys move, and we designed our own toys in our topic groups. Yesterday we experimented with different toys and grouped them into ‘push’ and ‘pull’ toys. Then we made our own ‘push’ peg toys. Here are some pictures of us with our toys.
We had more interesting items today for the Panda group Show and Tell. The children are keen to get into the festive spirit as we have been practicing our Nativity songs for the past few weeks.
All children in P2H have been given a new reading book today. I was aware that many of the children had already completed their non-fiction books, as the books are a lot shorter than their fiction reading books. We have read the new reading book together today in class, and we will be reading more and answering questions on the texts on Friday.
Today was the Giraffe group show and tell. We have been practising our questioning skills during our show and tell time. The children enjoy sharing their news and toys with the class and it is giving them plenty of practice for their upcoming Toys topic talk. Here are a few pictures from today.
• New common word walls have been given out today to the majority of our reading groups. The remaining group will receive their word walls tomorrow. If you could go over a section of the words each night and give a tick to each one that your child recognises, and I will be going over these in class also.
• Maths homework will be given on Wednesday as usual and it will be on the months of the year.
Read and Munch afternoon in P2H is currently on a Friday; however, from this week going forward we will have Read and Munch on a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Simpson.
P.E days in P2H are on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Could you please ensure your child brings their gym bag back tomorrow if it hasn’t already been returned following the holiday.
Primary 2H had a great time today making our ‘message in a bottle’ invitations to our open afternoon on Friday. If you could print your child’s name on the letter and sign if you plan to attend on Friday afternoon; I will collect the letters over the next few days. I will also continue to collect parents night appointment forms tomorrow.
Parents night appointment letters were sent home today in the children’s school bags. Can you please confirm that you can attend the allocated time by signing the letter I will collect them on Monday morning.
I hope you also received my letter this week regarding our open afternoon, where the children will be able to share their learning around their topic the ‘Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ with you. There will be one parent/guardian per child and it will start at 2pm. The activities will end at approximately 3pm. The children will be performing 2 songs for you all and then you will get the opportunity to come in to class to see our work. There will also be a small picnic prepared by the class. We will be creating special invites for you on Monday morning.
I look forward to seeing many of you on Friday.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
For a craft activity we require one small water bottle per child. If you have any spare, or about to go into recycling, I would be grateful if you could send them in.
