STEM Week 2018

STEM Week 2018 kicked off with the world of work visiting Bishopton Primary School.
We were joined by Ally, Alex Joannides, Lucy Joannides, Suzanne Lee, Jennifer Jensen, Iain McDade, Matthew Cochrane, Colin, Martin Banks, Eleanor Rathod and Etienne Rathod.

Their expertise taught us all about the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and they provided fantastic role models for our pupils. They were even able to answer some of our very tricky questions.

It certainly made us think about future careers in some jobs that may not even exist yet!
Keep an eye on the class blogs to see some pictures of today’s events and what we get up to throughout the rest of the week.

A massive thank you to all the companies and businesses who helped this afternoon to take place.

Calling all STEM Practitioners!

Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths!

We are currently planning Bishopton Primary STEM week for the week beginning 1st October 2018.  We are planning a variety of different classroom challenges and would love to hear from STEM practitioners.

If you could come in and tell us a little bit about your job and training or give us a hand with some of the challenges we would love for you to visit us.

Please get in touch with the school office or write a note in your child’s diary and I will get in touch.

Kind Regards,

Mr McAvoy

The Scottish Engineering Leaders Award Public Exhibition

A massive congratulations to Ellie and Zak from P7 who have had their engineering solutions chosen to be displayed at the Barony Hall in Glasgow.

The pupils were asked to research engineering and interview a practicing engineer to inspire them in answering the question:

“If you were an Engineer, what would you do?”

They have been shortlisted after over 15 000 entries this year!

If you would like to attend the event on Friday 8th or Saturday  9th June, please click on the link below. I can’t wait to have a look at all their hard work on Saturday.

Sports Day 2018

Sports Day 2018 finished with our Sports Assembly on Monday Morning. We looked at the qualities of elite athletes and how we could become the next one!

Congratulations to the HAWKS who won the Sports Day Trophy in what was a very tight event.

The Sport Committee would also like to thank all of our volunteers and helpers who made the day a great success!

Sports Day Wednesday 30th May 2018

Sports Day Wednesday 30th May 2018

Sports day is almost upon us and the weather forecast is looking positive.

Please remember to wear your house colours (Falcons – Blue, Eagles – Yellow, Hawks – Green and Ospreys – Red) and bring lots of water and sun cream.

Parents, friends and family are invited to the ROF field for the traditional sports day races at the following times:

P1, P7 and nursery races – 9.30-10.30am

P2 and P6 races – 11-12 noon

P3, P4 and P5 races – 1.30-2.30pm

Building works have now started on the school field so if you are having a picnic it will need to be out with the school grounds. Normal home lunch rules apply.

We look forward to seeing you then!

RENERS Cup

A massive well done to Bishopton Blue and Bishopton Red who competed in the RENERS cup at Renfrew Juniors today. Both played some lovely football with Bishopton Blue reaching the Semi Finals. The football and sportsmanship on show by all schools was fantastic. Well done to everyone involved and a special thanks to those who came down to cheer the team on!

Football Team update

The football team finished their league campaign with a scoring draw against St John Bosco. It was a close game and the team were disappointed as the final whistle blew but they should all be very proud with their excellent league form, only losing once all year.

Well done to everyone who has represented the team this year and thank you to the supporters who have cheered us on.

We have the RENERS cup in the next few weeks as we look to finish the year on a high.

Health Week 2018

Health Week 2018 begins on Monday 5th March. We have a very busy week with lots of our talented parents and people from the community  coming in to share their expertise with us.

Please wear gym gear every day as we have lots of activities planned to keep you fit.

Also,  please try to bring one piece of ‘exotic’ fruit to taste as part of our fruit kebabs task on the days below:

Tuesday – Primary 3, 6 & 7
Wednesday – Primary 1
Thursday – Primary 2
Friday – Primary 4 & 5

School Football Team Update

The football team played their rescheduled fixture against Bargarran Primary after the recent snow.

After a joint training session a few weeks ago, both teams played out an entertaining draw. It was great to see such positive attitudes during both the training session and the game from both sides.  This was great to see especially with our upcoming transition events as we prepare for Secondary school.

STEM Friday Lunch Club

The STEM club is starting back up and will be creating different models and using experiments to solve problems. This is a follow up from all of the fun we have been having during the STEM master classes.

This will be over Friday lunchtimes with Mr McAvoy in the P7S classroom so please remember to bring a packed lunch.

If you would like to come, please ask a parent or guardian to complete the form on the website below.

Junior Soccer Sevens

Bishopton Blue and Bishopton Red attended the Junior Soccer Sevens Tournament at Ferguslie Sport Centre. We managed to have 18 boys and girls play in some exciting matches. It was a brilliant event with the pupils playing against a variety of teams. The teams were a mix of some Primary 4, 5 and 6’s which is great for the school football team for the years to come. It was also great to see supporters down cheering the teams on.

Over the last three weeks we have had over 40 pupils represent the school at Badminton, the Soccer Sevens and the Junior Soccer Sevens.
Go Team Bishopton!!!!
