P2/1 w/b 27.2.17

Hi everyone

I hope you had a lovely weekend!

This week, we are very busy doing loads of exciting things.

Today, P2 had a visit from the Recycling Heroes Workshop. They learned lots about the importance of recycling and the 3R’s (Reduce, reuse, recycle.) Tomorrow (Tuesday) P2 will be visiting the library in the morning with P3/2. They will have the opportunity to choose a book which they will return to the library on their next visit in 2 weeks time.

P1 will be visiting the library on Wednesday afternoon with P1H.  Thank you for all books returned so far from our last visit. However, we are still waiting on a couple. If you have a library book at home, could you please return it to school asap. Thanks!

On Thursday, P2/1 will be taking part in World Book Day. We have lots of exciting book related activities planned. Please bring any sponsor money that day and remember to dress up – either as your favourite book character or pyjamas/onesie. It would be great if you could bring £1 donation. Please also remember to bring in your favourite book and a healthy snack for a special Read and Munch. Anyone who’d like to come in and read to the class, please pop in between 9.00 and 9.30.

Please also remember that our sponsored readathon continues until Thursday.

P2 Library Visit

P2 will be joining P3/2 on a couple of Library Visits over the next few weeks. They will be visiting the library on Tuesday 28th February and Tuesday 14th March.  P2 will be going along to Bishopton Library straight after registration and should be back in school for 10:30 on these days.  We are looking for a parent helper to accompany them on these dates.  If you are able to attend, please pop a small note in the diary and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Library Visit

P1H and P1s from P2/1 will be visiting the library on Wednesday 1st March at 2.15pm. We are looking for parent helpers to accompany us on this trip. If you are free and willing to help us on this date, could you please put a note in your child’s diary and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you!

P.S. If you have not yet returned your old library book to school, please do so ASAP.

P2/1 Primary Engineering Challenge

Hi

Fire, our friendly dragon from fairyland, left us a very important note on Friday. He informed us that Cinderella’s carriage had broken down and that there was no way for Cinderella to get to the ball. To help Cinderella, P2/1 have been set a challenge by Fire, to learn more about engineering and to design and build a vehicle to transport Cinderella to the ball.

We have 6 weeks to complete our task and as a class, P2/1 are already taking their challenge very seriously. We will be hearing from Fire over the next few weeks to guide us through our challenge but in the meantime, we are hoping to learn a little more about what engineering is and how it affects our daily lives.

To help us learn more about engineering, we are looking for volunteers, who have a background in engineering, to come into school and share their experiences about the work that they do.

If you are willing or know anyone who would be willing to come into school to talk to the children, please leave a note in your child’s diary. Thank you!

Hi P2/1

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

Last week, we had a very special visit from Mr Dragon and his baby dragon friend who we have named Fire. Fire is from Fairyland and he is hoping that we can help everyone believe in the magic of fairy tales again.

Along with the other P1 and P2 classes, we are going to help Fire and all of his friends in our new topic, Fairyland. This week, we are going to be transforming our classroom into a welcoming and exciting area which helps to promote fairy tales. As part of this, we are going to have a topic table where we can display stories and items from home related to fairy tales. If you have anything at home that you wish to bring in to display on our topic table, please ensure that it labelled with your name. All items will be returned at the end of our topic.

Vegetable Tasting!

The Food and the Environment sub group were discussing ways in which we could promote healthy eating as well as helping to reduce food waste in the school. We are hoping to put lots of plans in place over the next few weeks and months but we thought we would firstly take the opportunity, to promote the new Renfrewshire School Meals Menu which starts on Monday.

As a group, we discussed how many vegetables are wasted at meal times as children are not willing to try them because they don’t know what they are or taste like. After speaking to Mrs Ferguson in the kitchen, we agreed that we would hold a vegetable tasting day for the whole school.

Mr Collins and Mrs Davidson discussed the importance of healthy eating and promoted some of the new vegetables at our assemblies before all pupils (and staff) had the opportunity to sample some of the vegetables that will be on offer on the new menu.

Curly kale was the clear favourite, followed by green beans and then roasted onions (we might need to promote the latter more!)

Here are some pictures of our infant children trying some of the vegetables:

Just a reminder to keep practising your Scottish poem over the weekend. You should be ready to recite your poem next week as we will be listening to everyone on either Monday or Tuesday. This is so that we can announce our class winner on Wednesday.

P1H and P2/1 Library Visit

P1H and the P1s from P2/1 had a great visit to the library today.  All children chose a book to read for enjoyment.  Most children have chosen a book that they would like to read with you. Please encourage your child to look for words that they are familiar with in the text. Some children will have chosen a book that they can read by themselves whilst a few children have chosen a book that would be read to them by someone at home. Please also talk to your child about things that they enjoyed in the story, favourite characters etc. All books should be returned to school no later than Thursday 9th February. Thank you!

Library Visit

Primary 1’s from P2/1 and all of P1H are going to be visiting the library on Wednesday 18th January at 2.15pm. We aim to be back in school no later than 3pm. We are looking for 2 parent helpers from either class to accompany us on this trip. If you are available to help, please put a note in your child’s diary.

Happy New Year!

Hi everyone

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Just wanted to start by saying a huge thank you for all of my lovely gifts and cards, it was very much appreciated!

We are now back into normal routine and I am looking forward to watching the children progress in their learning throughout the term.

Thank you for returning gym bags but we are still waiting for a few children to return these to school. Can I please remind you that our gym days are on a Wednesday and Friday.

We have started our new mini topic, Scotland and all children are allowed to bring in anything Scottish related to class to share with their friends.

The children have been desperate to share their class teddy, Star with you at home. All children will therefore have the opportunity over the next few weeks to take Star home for a sleepover. Some children have asked  if they can write a diary or take pictures with Star to share the next day in class. I am allowing this but I must make clear is not a requirement. I am allowing Star to go home for enjoyment purposes.
