Free Stock Photo 11969 Jumbled Pile of Colorful Wooden Toy Blocks | freeimageslive

Primary 1 are are looking to update some of our play resources to enhance our free play learning experience. With Christmas just around the corner and on the back of COP26, our hope is that we can get donations from home that are no longer wanted or used without buying brand new. At the children’s request, we are looking for donations of the following items:

  • Wooden blocks
  • Jigsaws
  • Board Games
  • Child sized furniture
  • Construction sets
  • Dolls and accessories
  • Puppets
  • Small world figures
  • Sand/water play toys
  • Role play sets e.g. play doctor kit
  • Threading and lacing toys

If you can help us and have items you are willing to donate, please reply to this post with a note of the items, as this will ensure there are no duplications. We will then get back to you to confirm where and when to donate the item/s.

Please only send donations to school that are clean and in good condition.

This is an ideal opportunity to clear out before Christmas, whilst supporting our learners.

We appreciate your support.

Hi everyone

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and enjoyed the sunshine when it appeared!

The final holiday of this session is fast approaching and I have no idea where the time has gone! A reminder that children stop for the long weekend on Wednesday this week and won’t return to school until Tuesday 30th May.

Due to the short, 3 day week and because we have sports day on Tuesday, there will be no formal homework set this week. I will send bookbags home tomorrow (won’t need them back until after the holiday weekend) because most library books are inside them. Feel free to read these during the week if you wish.

On Tuesday, children should come to school dressed appropriately in their sports kit and wearing house colours. Please prepare for all weather possibilities (rain jacket , suncream, hats etc.)

As always, please let me know if there is anything I can help with.

Enjoy the long weekend when it comes. Here’s hoping the sun is shining!

P2/1 W/B 15.5.17

Hi everyone

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Last week, we completed the first level of HeartStart Training. We learned what to do if we found a casualty who was conscious. We also learned the importance of calling 999 (or 112 in Europe) if there was an emergency and to ask for an ambulance if someone was hurt.

I was impressed with the amount of children who knew their home address but not everyone was fully confident. We all agreed that it would be great to learn our address in case there was ever an emergency at home. This is therefore part of our homework this week. I will send home a blank postcard that children can write their address on and then use to practise memorising it.

Here is the other homework this week:

P1

Reading

Wordwall

Sounds (er as in father, ar as in farm)

Blending (th words)

Maths Challenge

P2

Reading

Spelling (igh as in high)- Please remember to complete all spelling activities (copy out using SACAWAC, 2 quality sentences, spelling grid)

Spelling Common Words Wall – Please continue to learn and practise words and only highlight in green when fully confident in spelling them.

P.E. Kit

We have been very lucky with the weather recently and I am hoping this will continue throughout the majority of this term. Lots of girls are now coming to school wearing summer dresses which is great to see. Can I please ask however that on days when we have P.E. (Wednesdays and Fridays) girls who are wearing a summer dress, come with a change of top to wear during our P.E. lesson. They should not be wearing their dress on top of their shorts for P.E. lessons as it restricts their movement and can cause injury. Thanks!

As always, please let me know if there is anything that I can do to help.

Have a super week!

Miss Cruickshank

Library Visit

P2/1 and P1H plan to visit the library on Wednesday 17th May between 1.30pm and 2.15pm. We are looking for 2 adult helpers to assist us on this trip. If you are willing and able to help out, please write a note in your child’s diary. Thank you!

Week Beginning 8.5.17

Hi everyone

I hope you all had a lovely weekend enjoying the beautiful weather.

We have been very busy over the past couple of weeks. Firstly, we worked very hard in our engineering groups to complete the challenges that Fire the Baby Dragon set us as part of our Fairyland Topic. All children worked very hard together to build a vehicle to take Cinderella to the Ball. Matthew the engineer visited our school to judge the final testing of the vehicles and chose Isla R and Lucas as the overall winners. They represented Bishopton Primary at the Renfrewshire Showcase Event at Inchinnan and I am very pleased to say that they came 1st in their category. Both children will now go on to represent the school at the Regional Final in Glasgow on the 1st June. Congratulations!

We also had a wonderful time learning with Rookie Rockstars and both perfomance nights at Ingliston were a huge success.

Last week we started our new Habitats topic. We were very lucky to have a visit from the RSPB. We learned about different habitats and looked in the playground for creatures and animals using magnifying glasses. It was lots of fun! Over the next few weeks, we will learning about a variety of different habitats in more detail and the living things that live in each one.

Can I please remind everyone that our Read and Munch day is on a Thursday. Please bring a text of your choice and a healthy snack to school on this day.

We also plan to go outside as much as possible this term for a variety of different things. This includes using the field for P.E. If possible, can I ask that all children bring some outdoor trainers in as the grass can often be a little wet in the morning because of the dew on it. A reminder that our P.E. days are a Wednesday and Friday.

Homework this week:

P1

As you will have noticed, P1 children have started to write their own diaries. Please ensure that all homework is completed by the end of each week.

New Sound (ue as in blue)

Blending Booklet (sh words)

New Maths Challenge Sheet (Please follow as dated.)

P2

P2/1 w/b 27.3.17

Hi everyone

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and enjoyed the sunny weather. The Easter Holidays are nearly upon us and we finish at 2.30pm on Friday.

There will be no formal homework this week. Book bags will be kept in class until after the holidays. However, children  can read their library book , play Sumdog, Teach your Monster to Read, or Skoolbo. They might even want to practise their spelling or number bonds.

Please return all library books to school  by Thursday.

Big pedal continues this week. Please remember that children will only be allowed to ride their bike or scooter in the playground if they  are wearing a helmet.

Everyone should now have received an email containing your child’s learning Profile. Please let me know if you have not received this.

I am looking forward to meeting with you at our parents’ evenings on Tuesday or Wednesday.

I hope everyone has a lovely week and as always, please let me know if there is anything I can help with.

Miss Cruickshank

Eco Week – Day 3

We had another eventful day today. We continued with Big Pedal and sang an Eco song. We also learned about the important work of Scottish Water. We now understand the importance of the 3Ps when referring to what to flush down the toilet and also how we should not waste water by ensuring we turn off taps when not in use. We even completed a water challenge where we had to guess which cup contained water from a tap and which cup contained water from a bottle. We all agreed it was very hard to tell as they tasted very similar. This confirmed the quality of the water we have in our country and how lucky we are to have such a resource.

Here are some pictures from today.

Day 2 Eco Week

This morning, we had a visit from The Asparagus Hut. We learned all about the importance of eating healthy and local seasonal produce. We also had the chance to taste some things including blackberries and salty fingers.

Big Pedal also continued today. I am impressed with your effort considering the weather conditions this morning. Please remember that children will only be allowed to play on their bike and scooter in school if they are wearing a helmet.

Here are some pictures from today.

Eco Week Begins…

We had a great start to Eco Week today as we took part in No Paper Day along with the rest of the school. All of our lessons were paperless and we made an extra effort throughout the day to use other things in place of paper, including using hand driers instead of paper towels and our class whiteboard for class notes.

The main purpose of today was to make us aware of how much paper we use on a daily basis. We were very concerned about the amount of trees that have to be cut down to provide us with paper! We all agreed that we are going to try very hard from now on to use less, reuse and recycle the paper we are using.

We also had our first session outside for Big Pedal. This was great fun! Please remember that we will only be allowed on our bikes and scooters in school if we are wearing a helmet.

Here are some pictures from today.

W/b 20.3.17

Hi everyone

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to all who attended our open afternoon on Friday. I hope you enjoyed seeing the children’s work and joining in with their activities.

We have a very busy week ahead of us. Tomorrow marks the beginning of our Big Pedal Fortnight. (Please see further information about this in a previous post!) Children are invited to bring in their bikes and scooters into school and we will have the opportunity to go out into the playground to play on them each day. Please note that children must wear a helmet when on their bikes and scooters.

Tomorrow is also the beginning of our Eco Week, where we will be learning all about the importance of sustainability through a variety of activities. We have a couple of visitors scheduled throughout the week to come and speak to us about different eco issues. We will also be taking part in the no paper day tomorrow to help us understand how much we rely on paper daily.

On top of this, there are a variety of fundraising activities related to Red Nose Day throughout the week. On Tuesday, P6 are holding a bake sale where all cakes will cost 10p. There will be face painting on Wednesday for anyone who wishes to have their face painted. This will cost 20p but children must have returned their permission slip before they will be allowed to have this done! On Friday, there will be a wear red to school day where there is a suggested donation of £1 to participate.

Due to our very busy week, there will be no formal reading homework for P1 this week. We will just be reading in class. P2 will have the opportunity to choose a book to read for enjoyment at home but there will be no follow up activities in class.

P1 homework for this week:

Eco Week 2017

ECO WEEK 2017

This week, Bishopton Primary is holding an Eco Week to encourage whole school community action on Learning for Sustainability. The Eco Committee have been working hard preparing the structure and activities for the week which will run from Monday 20th March until Thursday 23rd March 2017.

This week is part of our continued journey towards achieving a Green Flag as part of the Eco Schools Programme. More information for this can be found on the Keep Scotland Beautiful website.

The week begins with a No Paper Day on Monday to help us all understand how much we rely on paper daily. All classes will be challenged with completing their lessons without the use of books, jotters, worksheets or textbooks. The photocopier will be out of use! Everyone will be encouraged to use hand driers instead of paper towels to dry hands. Paper towels will only be used in emergencies in the classroom.

Throughout the rest of the week, pupils will be participating in a variety of eco related activities including indoor planting, learning about the importance of recycling, and taking part in the Big Pedal. All classes will also welcome external visitors who will be teaching us all about a variety of eco related topics. There will also be the opportunity for pupils to earn eco points for their class for a variety of different eco related things including turning lights off in class, recycling correctly and having a healthy snack for break and lunch. Winners will be announced at the Eco Assembly on Monday 27th March.

Please keep an eye on the blog for updates on how we get on throughout the week.

This week is all about getting our pupils excited and more knowledgeable about what being an Eco School means. It’s about educating our pupils about the importance of working towards a green flag and what it represents. This week is about being part of ‘keeping Scotland clean and green, today and tomorrow!’

World Book Day

We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day last week and loved coming into school dressed as book characters, in our jammies or onesies. P5S joined us for a special read and munch and P7S read fairytales to us before we worked with them to act out an alternative ending to a fairytale. Some of us were even lucky enough to have some family members come into school to read to us and our friends.

Here are some pictures from the day.

P2/1

Hi everyone

Just a reminder that it is World Book Day tomorrow. Please come to school dressed as your favourite book character or in jammies/onesie. Please also remember to bring your donation.

We will be having a special Read and Munch with P5S tomorrow so please remember to bring a book in for this as well as a healthy snack (fruit or vegetable.)

Please also remember that all are welcome to come into the class to read to their child anytime between 9 and 9.30. I am also happy for parents to come in with their child, through our class door, at this time.

I am looking forward to tomorrow, it’s going to be a good one!
