Please read each question carefully so you understand fully what is being asked of you. I have linked some of the questions to our Fractions topic therefore you need to think carefully about which operation would be best for these calculations.

Each answer should show all workings and include a sentence answer. This task should be completed and returned to school by Friday.

  1. Mirren had 120 new hair bobbles. She decided to share them with her little sister, Brooke. If she gave Brooke half of them, how many would Mirren have left?
  1. For our Personal Reading Challenge Kate has read 8 books so far. If each book has 224 pages, how many pages has Kate read in total?
  1. There are 50 pupils in Primary 5. One fifth of them plan to have a school dinner on Thursday. How many will have a school dinner that day?
  1. On Saturday Finlay went to a chess competition. He left his house at 9.30am and never returned until 8.15pm that night. How long was Finlay out of the house for?
  1. Last Friday 21 pupils in P5S walked to school. One third of them got a lift home at the end of the day. How many children got a lift home?
  1. Challenge Question (a)  Out of the 50 pupils in Primary 5 one fifth have brown eyes. How many have brown eyes?

(b) How many do not have brown eyes?

(c) Half of the remaining P5 children have blue eyes. How many children have blue eyes?

P5H – The Biology of the Brown Trout

Image result for brown trout

Yesterday we looked at the biology of the brown trout. We learned about all of the different parts on a trout’s body. They have quite a few fins. Can you remember the names of any? Each fin is used for a different reason.  Can you remember why they have them?

To help remember the different parts we are making 3D brown trout. Each fish will then be labelled showing all of the different parts. First of all you had to draw the outline of a trout and then paint on all of the different markings found on their bodies. The trickiest part was painting on the correct side for some of you!

The fish are looking fantastic and next week you will get the chance to complete them and show them off on your wall spaces.  Well done P5H, it was lovely working with you.

Here are a few photographs of you hard at work.

P5 – Fish Release

Image result for brown trout

This afternoon we braved the cold as we set out to take our fish on the next part of their journey. We released them in a small burn behind the golf course. This will allow them to grow a little more before they find their way to the River Clyde.

Having the fish in class has been a wonderful experience and I have to say just how well you all looked after them. Out of the 200 eggs we received, we managed to keep a whopping 184 alive! That is just fantastic and Lesley, our scientist, was absolutely delighted. Well done Primary 5!

Thank you to our parent helpers who came along with us today. Here are a few photographs from this afternoon.

P5S – Marine Life Magazines

Image result for brown trout

Learning Outcome: I can research the marine life found within, and around, the River Clyde. I can use my notes to help my group create an interesting and detailed magazine.

By considering the type of text I am creating, I can select ideas and relevant information, organise these in an appropriate way for my purpose and use suitable vocabulary for my audience. LIT 2-26a

I am learning to use language and style in a way which engages and/or influences my reader. ENG 2-27a

We have been very busy recently working on our topic tasks. We have just completed our marine life task where we looked at the different types of fish/animals found in and around the River Clyde. Using our research we created a group magazine to show what we had learned.

The magazines will be on display at our Parents’ Evenings next month but I will give you a wee sneak peak at the front covers today. You are in for a treat. They look fabulous!

Well, what a wonderful afternoon we had! I am incredibly proud of the way you all conducted yourselves today. You entertained our guests so well and it was just lovely to see and hear all the chatting and laughing going on. Well done each and every one of you! You were a credit to our school this afternoon.

Please click here to have a wee nosey at the photographs from this afternoon.

Roots and Wings Community Cafe

What a wonderful afternoon we had! Today P5S had the pleasure of hosting the second Roots and Wings Community Cafe and I have to say what a great experience it was. We had a little sing-a-long, completed a quiz, played some boards games, did a little reading and showed off some of our topic work. Very busy but so much fun!

Thank you to all of our visitors for coming along and a huge thank you to our parent helpers who were there to serve our refreshments. Another thank you to our House Captains who were, once again, a wonderful help. Our final thank you must go to Miss Burnett who put all of this in place and invited us to host today’s event.

Here are a few photographs from this afternoon.

P5 Fish Release

Tomorrow afternoon (Thursday) we will be saying goodbye to our class fish. We have looked after them so well it is now time to let them go. Our scientist from Clyde in the Classroom has found the perfect spot for their release and we will be heading there tomorrow afternoon. As it has been so wet recently the ground is rather muddy therefore you MUST wear suitable footwear. Wellington boots would be perfect. Please wear your school shoes as normal in the morning and bring your boots in a separate bag to change into before we leave. A suitable waterproof jacket should also be worn as we will be walking there and back. The forecast has to be cold so hats, scarves and gloves should be worn also.

P5S Library Visit

Image result for bookworm

This morning we had another visit to the library where you returned your books and chose some new ones. Once again quite a number of books were taken out to use in our Personal Reading Challenge. It was great to see so many of you trying different authors too. Well done!

We still have 6 weeks of our Personal Reading Challenge to go so still plenty of time for reading, especially since we have our school readathon going on for World Book Day.

Our next visit to the library will be on Tuesday 21st March. This will allow you to take out some books to read over the Easter break.

Here are a few photographs from today’s visit.

Good morning everyone! I hope you are having a lovely weekend. Here is a rundown of your homework and reminders for this week.

Spelling:  Units 27 and 34 should be completed for Friday. As always, each word should be written out three times and an uplevelled sentence should be written for each spelling rule word. Please remember to consider your VCOP in each sentence. This week we will be focusing on using more ambitious vocabulary in each sentence.

Reading:  Over the next couple of days you will be choosing a new core reader to read at home. Your chosen book should be completed for Thursday 2nd March. There will be no written homework for this as all tasks will be completed in class. As always, if there is any vocabulary you are unsure of, please take a note of it and we will discuss it in class on Thursday.

Personal Reading Challenge: We now have 6 weeks of reading left. You have set yourself a personal target based on the number of books read last term and the aim is to reach it (or beat it!) before the end of term. Please remember to bring your book to school as this will allow you to read it during our ERIC sessions.

Please remember to record the books in your reading passport as you finish them. The passport is kept in class.

Listening & Talking: This term you have a solo presentation to complete. You now have 1 week to plan, organise and prepare your presentation as you will be presenting in class on Tuesday 28th February. Please click here to see the task sheet with all of the details required. If you require a paper copy of the task sheet, please ask.

Please remember that if you need to email me a PowerPoint or any photographs you wish to use in your presentation, you should do so by Friday as this will allow me time to check for any issues before Tuesday.

Maths: Please complete the word problems for your group by Friday. All workings should be shown and a sentence answer should be given for each question. Please use the links below to access your questions.

Your maths homework is being completed to a very high standard. Keep it up!

The money has been counted and we now have a final total. This morning our total was sitting at £290.28 but we managed to encourage some of our teachers to buy up the remainder of the cakes to have with their tea at breaktime. With another donation from Mrs Scott in the office, I am absolutely delighted to say that the final total raised is ………………………………………………. £300.00.

Once again, a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to make our Primary 5 fundraiser so successful. The children worked so hard on this and we are very proud of them. Well done everyone!

I can tell the time using 12 hour clocks, realising there is a link with 24 hour notation, explain how it impacts on my daily routine and ensure that I am organised and ready for events throughout my day.  MNU 1-10a

I can use and interpret electronic and paper-based timetables and schedules to plan events and activities and to make time calculations as part of my planning.   MNU 2-10a

In our time topic you have been learning about both 12 and 24 hour clock times. You have also been learning to read information from timetables.

Today you will be completing your time topic assessment.  A task sheet has been issued. Please follow the instructions carefully. Only the links below should be used for this task.

Today we held our fundraiser and what a success it was! Some wonderful  baking was on offer today. A huge thank you to everyone who came and bought some of the cakes and participated in the activities organised.

The winner of “Guess the Teddy Bear’s Birthday” was Rebecca in P3F who guessed the closest date. Our sweet jar held 3090 “Millions” and Logan in P6P had the closest guess. Well done to both of you!

40 of our fish were “adopted” today. Certificates will be issued over the next few days.

Our “Balloon Pop” was very popular and we ran out of balloons very quickly. A number of you won prizes which will be redeemed by your teachers over the next week or so.

I will post a final total for the money raised very soon (once it has all been counted) but once again, thank you for making this a very successful event for Primary 5.

Here are some photographs from our event.

P5S – The River Clyde Wall Mural

Image result for river clyde

Today we started work on our wall mural. As part of our River Clyde topic we are creating a mural to show what we are learning. This will be an ongoing task that we will add to each week.

Today each group had the task of creating one of the landmarks found along the River Clyde. The Wacky Waverley’s (plus Mikey who we stole from The Fish Fingers for the afternoon) had the tough job of recreating the River Clyde. Once again I am a very proud teacher and am very excited about putting all your work from today together on the mural. You worked wonderfully together. We just need to work on making less mess!

Here are a few photographs from this afternoon. I will post updated photographs of the wall mural as we go along.

P5 – Our fish are growing!

Our fish are getting bigger! All of our eggs have hatched and are at the next stage of their life cycle. Can you remember what this stage is called? How are they feeding? What will happen to them next? Please tell someone at home what you have learned so far.

Here are some up-to-date photographs of the fish today. We have a few cheeky characters who are being brave and swimming to the top of the tank sometimes but most of them are still playing it safe and staying under the stones.

On Wednesday 22nd February we are hosting the next Intergenerational Community Cafe. This will be a wonderful afternoon where you will have the opportunity to entertain some residents from Erskine Hospital and the Bishopton community.

One of the activities you will be involved in is singing the song below to our guests. We will be practicing in class however you will also need to practice at home too. Please access the video and lyrics to the song below. The lyrics are slightly out of sync on the video but don’t worry as I will give you a paper copy to use at home.

German Masterclass 2

Image result for paul klee

This afternoon we had our final German Masterclass. Many of you managed to complete your Paul Klee painting and they look wonderful . We added the background to the paintings using watercolours and it really changed the whole look.

A few of you started creating your own version of another of Klee’s painting: Lemon Harvest. Again, they were looking great!

Well done everyone, you worked incredibly hard on your paintings over the last couple if weeks. Here are a few photographs from today’s Masterclass and of the completed paintings. Let me know what you think of them.
