The company name for our Social Enterprise project was created after a competition across three classes: P6/7, GME P6 and P7 and P7.
Mercy Hannigan came up with the winning name, Nature’s Wood. This was translated into Coille Nádurrach by the GME class.
The winning logo was designed by Jasmine Heap.
Our 3 classes have worked steadily across 2 terms of school to create a natural space that is accessible and wild.
We’ve removed over 200 tree tubes, stakes and zip ties
Lopped head high branches to create a safe walking and running corridor
Removed ash die back in an attempt to stem is spread locally
Used the materials from our maintenance work to create a den building space
Done an intensive litter pick to keep the wildlife safe
Used donated tree rounds to install a seating area for classes
It has been so important to be able to use the outdoors as a way to interact socially after and during the Covid-19 pandemic.
After all our hard work transforming the space we will share it with the other classes in the school and develop it for use as an outdoor classroom.
Primary 1 have had been out and loved building and playing with natural materials.
