Health and Wellbeing

Healthy living is promoted throughout the year in a range of contexts.

Along with at least two hours of PE per week, pupils enjoy a range of physical activities and sports. The children participate each day in running, jogging or walking a daily mile, the “Daily Mile” scheme is credited with improving the health of pupils.

We offer Bikeability Scotland cycle training to all P7 pupils to ensure that they leave Primary School with the skills and confidence to cycle safely and become a biking expert. For more information visit the Cycling Scotland website.

Each year we enter the Sustrans Big Pedal, the UK’s largest inter-school cycling, walking and scooting challenge inspiring pupils, staff and parents to choose human power for their journey to school.  We have recently installed two new shelters to safely store our pupil’s bikes and scooters from the Scottish weather!

Auchtergaven Primary School also takes part in the WOW, the Walk to School in Scotland programme. A generation ago, 70% of us walked to school – now it’s less than half.  We want to reverse this decline. We want children to be energised and empowered, and to make walking to school their natural choice.
