Learning in health and wellbeing ensures that young people develop the knowledge and understanding, skills, capabilities and attributes which they need for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing now and in the future. RSHP education forms a key part of Health and Wellbeing within Curriculum for Excellence and is delivered as part of the Personal and Social Education programme (PSE). Our RSHP programme includes elements that have been developed in partnership with Angus Council, Dundee Council and colleagues from Health.
In Blairgowrie High School the aims of RSHP education are to:
- encourage all to understand the importance of self-restraint, dignity and respect for themselves and the views of others
- encourage all to recognise the risks, the physical, emotional and moral implications of certain types of behaviour and to accept that both sexes must behave in a responsible and healthy manner
- develop knowledge, skills and values to help young people make responsible relationship and health choices
- understand that a wide range of different kinds of friendships and relationships exist
We believe our programme educates young people so that they can build positive relationships as they grow older and make informed choices. Facts are presented in an objective, balanced and sensitive manner within a framework of sound values and an awareness of the law on sexual behaviour. However, if parents or carers feel that the content of the sexual health education programme within our RSHP education programme is not appropriate they can withdraw a child from all or part of a planned programme of lessons and we will make arrangements for the child to have alternative educational provision. Please contact us for more information about the programme if you are considering withdrawing your child or if you would like more information about any aspect of the PSE programme.
