Today we are going to do some more work on telling the time.

Warm Up:

• Go on a clock hunt round your house.  How many clocks and watches can you find?  Remember there are 2 types of clocks:

analogue which have hands:

digital which have just numbers:

Main Task:

• What time is it on the analogue clocks below?

• Can you write the digital times too?

Extra Challenge:

• Can you use things you might find around your house or outside to make your own analogue clock?

It’s Wednesday. I wonder if the weather is going to be as sunny today…I don’t think so sadly 😆!

Have any of you made a dandelion chain or a daisy chain yet? I made a daisy chain but hadn’t thought about making a dandelion chain! If you fancy it, have a go.

Plural Wednesday

Today we are going to do some work on plurals. Plural means there is more than one of something.

When there is one of something we call it singular and when there is more than one of something we call it plural. 

To make something plural we just add ‘s‘ to the end of the word e.g. 1 cat and 5 cats. 

So adding ‘s‘ to the end of the word means there is more than 1 of something and it is plural. 

Warm Up:

• Watch this video to help you understand plurals:

Main Activity:

• Complete the worksheet below by adding s to the end of the word to make it plural

• If you would like to, you can draw pictures to go along with your writing

• Try and set it out like this:            1 cat        3 cats

Extra Challenge:

• Can you use any of your plural words to write a sentence? I came up with the sentence:         He had 2 fast cars.

Number Bond Wednesday

Today we are going to do some work on our number bonds. Remember, a number bond is an addition sum that we can recall and answer really quickly.

If we know our number bonds off by heart, it helps us as we start to work with bigger numbers. 

Warm Up:

• Jack Hartman has all the number bond videos for numbers from 1 to 10 on YouTube. Here is his video for number 8 – in the video he will show you all the different ways to make 8

Main Activity:

Primary 1 Number Bond Worksheet

• Complete the addition sums below in your jotter. Try and answer the number bond sums quickly, without using your fingers!

• If you need  to use your fingers  remember to always take the big number and add on the small number. 

Primary 2 Missing Number Bond Worksheet

• Fill in the missing number to complete the number bond sum. Try and recall your number bond facts without having to use your fingers.

• If you need to use you fingers, remember to put the number in your pocket and count on until you reach the answer.

Extra Challenge:

• Look at the picture below. Choose a number and write it in the middle of a your flower and then write all the different adding sums that make that number in the petals – remember we call all the different ways to make a number our ‘Number Story‘.

Happy Tuesday to everyone. Did you find many signs of summer on your scavenger hunt yesterday? I spotted lots of butterflies!   Here are today’s lessons for you. 

Writing Tuesday

Today is the day we do some work on our writing 📝 .  Remember it doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to spell a word – just sound it out and try your best to write it 🤩.

Warm up:

• Start today by writing the alphabet in your jotter –  try and use your neatest handwriting

• Make sure you remember tall, fall and small letters

• You can choose to practice writing lowercase letters, uppercase letters or both!

Main Activity:

• Look at the picture below.  Talk about it with someone at home. Think about these questions:

• Write about the picture using sentences.  Say your sentences out loud before you write them and read them back to make sure they make sense

• Remember capital letters, finger spaces and full stops

Extra Challenge:

• Can you include a joining word – and, but, so or because – to join two sentences together?

• Can you use any describing words to add extra detail to your story e.g. rubber duck,  cold water.

Phonics Monday

Today we are going to do some work on our sounds and learn about the sound ‘ff‘. 

Warm Up:

• Can you read these words with some of our digraphs?

• 

• Watch these clips to learn about ‘f’ and ‘ff’

Main Activity:

• Read the ‘ff‘ words on the poster below

• Choose a ‘ff’ word and try to write a sentence with it. Remember to begin with a capital and end with a full stop

• Draw a picture to illustrate your ‘ff’ sentence

Extra Challenge:

• Can you be a text detective and find any of the ff words in the wordsearch? Some of the words might be backwards – good luck!

Monday’s Maths

Since today is the start of a new month AND a new season I thought we could do some work on months of the year and seasons of the year!

Today is the first day of June and it is the start of the season Summer. 

Warm Up:

• Can you remember how many months are in a year? Can you name them?

• Can you remember how many seasons there are? Can you name them? 

Sing along with these videos to help you remember the months of the year and seasons – I have put on your favourite seasons song! Remember in America they call Autumn, ‘Fall’. 

Main Activity:

• Have a look outside and see if you can spot any signs of summer

  What do the trees look like? Look at their leaves.	Is it dark when you go to bed or get up in the morning?
  What are people wearing?	What is the weather like?

• If you can, have a go at this ‘Signs of Summer Scavenger Hunt’. I managed to find 6 of the items – can you beat me?

Extra Challenge:

• Draw a picture of yourself in summer – try to include as many signs of summer as possible. Think about what you would be wearing and where you would be. What would the weather be like?

On the main blog, Mrs McMillan has posted another one of her ‘Take a Moment’ videos. This week she is practising deep breathing – with help from her sock friend! Deep breathing is a great method to help younger children lower stress and regain control if they are feeling upset.  Have a look at the video below….

Friday’s Jumbled Sentences 

Today we are going to be unscrambling some jumbled sentences.  That means that the words are not in the right order so the sentence doesn’t make sense!

Warm Up:

• Watch this video clip to remind you how to make a sentence.  Can you join in with the singing and dance moves?

Main Activity:

Primary 1 Jumbled Sentences

• Read these jumbled sentences and put them in the correct order. 

• Remember a capital letter, finger spaces and full stop.

Primary 2 Jumbled Sentences

• Read these jumbled sentences and put them in the correct order. 

• Look for the capital letter and the full stop to help you work out which word comes first and which word comes last in the sentence!

Extra Challenge:

• Try and make up your own jumbled up sentences for someone else to solve.  You could write a sentence and then cut it up to rearrange in the correct order. Don’t forget the punctuation mark!

• As an extra, extra challenge you could hide the words for the person to find before they put them in the correct order.

Friday’s Mixture of Maths

Warm Up:

• Count along with this video – count in 2’s, 5’s or 10’s. Can you keep up with Jack?

Main Activity:

• Copy and complete these sums into your jotter

• Remember you need to put a ‘p’ for pence e.g. 1p + 1p = 2p

Extra Challenge:

• Last Thursday we were learning about gathering and recording information.  Today, or over the weekend, you could go on a bug hunt in your garden or when you are out for a walk

• Record how many of each bug you can spot and record this using a tally system.  You can lay it out like this, or print this image from the blog

• When I was in my garden I saw 6 ants, 2 spiders, 5 butterflies, a ladybird and 4 flies – how many can you find?

• This video is useful to teach you how to record tally marks and why they are useful

Topic Thursday

Today we are going to learn all about money 💰💵.

• We need money so we can pay for things. Can you think of any things you have bought using money?

• There are lots of different ways we can pay for items. We can use coins, notes or a credit/debit card. Look at these coins…

Warm Up:

• Go on a coin hunt!  Look around the house to see if you can find any coins.  Ask a grown up to help you.  When you have finished talk about the coins you have found 💰

• Put your coins in order, starting with the smallest VALUE (not the smallest size). Can you add any of the coins together?

• Watch this short sing along video that tells us about the coins 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p

Main Activity:

• Play this money game to practise using coins – Coin Game

• Have a look at the money jars below.  Can you work out how much money is in each jar?  If you have any coins at home you can use these to lay out the amounts shown on the sheet

Extra Challenge

• Can you use coins to put the correct amount of money in each jar below – remember there might be more than one way to make the amount

• You could draw around any coins you have at home to show the amount or just write down the value of the coins
