Today, we were very lucky and got to try out a military fitness training session. These challenges are to help us improve our stamina, speed, agility and strength. We had so much fun!

P5/6 were very lucky to have Mrs Keith in to help us with our story writing. She explained, from a published authors point of view just how long the process of writing a book is. She showed us the planning that went in to Hienemann Active Maths Books and the childrenâs story books she has created.
We looked closely at how to begin a story and the different ways we can do this. There are 6 different ways to begin a story: using a question, dialogue, describing a character, setting, object or action.
We looked at books in pairs to decide how the author has started the story to hook the reader in.
For our writing lesson, we had a go at beginning the story to beauty and the beast in the 6 different ways and chose our favourites. Miss Park collated them together for display as she was so impressed! We then started our own Christmas themed story using one of the 6 techniques and passed it on in a circle to continue the story around the room. We canât wait to read how our story ended up and discuss what happens if we donât have a clear plan and if different people have an in put.

Friday 30th November is St Andrews Day. Children must bring in a PE kit (or wear this to school) as we are taking part in a military fitness course. Children are more than welcome to wear tartan of some sort to celebrate St Andrews day and our theme of the day will be Scotland.
We have been creating top tips posters about the methods of addition we have learned so far: partitioning, doubles, near doubles and making tens. We have included the method name, explanations from each member of how to apply this method, examples ranging from simple to more complicated versions and word problems to include problem solving. We are going to present these to the class tomorrow. These will be on our wall display to help each other.
We have been learning a new layout for predicting what might happen in a text when a chapter has been left on a cliff hanger. We have been using our prior knowledge about characters and the story line to guess what could happen next. We were drawing a crystal ball to show a picture of what might be happening next with an explanation underneath and justifying our guess.
On Friday, we visited P2/3 for our reading buddies afternoon. We heard them read their reading books and played games to quiz them about the story and tricky words. We also each chose a book from the library to take turns reading. We really enjoyed it!
We have been practising our spelling words with a partner completing different tasks we came up with including: painting, hangman, laminated activities, testing our partners to spot the mistake, using a code and creating our own and using our strategies. Â We had a visitor from a South Lanarkshire school who was very impressed!
Yesterday, we were learning to make salt dough and wrote out instructions for us to follow. We then designed our own fairy door to have a clear plan and picture in our heads before we started.
We then mixed 1 cup of plain flour, one cup of salt and gradually poured in some water whilst we mixed it with our hands till it formed a dough substance.
Today, we started to paint the back of our fairy door and completed the daily mile and PE whilst they dried and the. Painted the front very carefully.
We canât  wait for Saturday!
This afternoon, we visited P2/3 for our reading buddies session. P2/3 read their class reading book to us and we read a story from the library to them. We had great fun!
