We in P5a have been very busy transforming our classroom into a rainforest – this terms Social Studies topic. We hope this will inspire and motivate our learning as well as being a fun environment learn in. We have been working hard at home too, both on our personal rainforest project and creating our 3D jungle animal – Mrs. Fullerton can’t wait to see them! Each Friday it is important to bring in our project research as this is when we work co-operatively to produce our rainforest Fact File Challenge. To be successful learners, we must share and collate our research in order to produce our information Fact File. It will be hard work but really worth it – feel free to come and read all about it!

P5a Burns Supper
P5a decided to celebrate our famous bards birthday in style – we had our very own Burns Supper. We researched the traditions of this celebration and wrote appropriate instructions for our Genre Writing, this helped us both to understand and follow the step by step procedures of a Burns Supper. We think our photos relate how much fun was had by all. Some of us were brave enough to taste Haggis and it is safe to say it was enjoyed by most of the children who decided to give it a go, while others couldn’t get enough! A day to be proud of – we think Rabbie would think so too!
Burns’ Assembly
Remember that our Burns’ assembly takes place this Friday, January 25th (Robert Burn’s birth date). All of the classes have been practicing songs and poems to celebrate the life of Scotland’s favourite son.
All friends and family of Tannochside are welcome to join us. It will start at 9.30am in the Assembly Hall. Please join us for some Shortbread and a cuppa!
P5a Problem Solving
In Maths P5a are learning about shape – both 2D and 3D and their properties. Our class teacher challenged us with some Problem Solving all about shape. Our strategy for this was – We can work together, and therefore we worked as a team in co-operative groups to support each others learning. Problem Solving was quite tricky but you can see from our photographs how eager we were to offer our answers. Mrs. Fullerton thinks we are magic at maths and is very impressed with our team efforts. Well done all!
P5a Glorious Art Gallery
In P5a we have been celebrating Robert Burns through our learning in a variety of ways. These include; fluency, comprehension, poetry, art, singing and our personal projects. We were challenged to sketch a mouse using drawing skills such as line, shape and shading inspired by Burn’s famous To a Mouse poem. Our teacher thought it would be great fun and democratic (fair) for us all to secretly select our top three from our walk around Art Gallery. We can’t name the lucky winners yet, as they will be announced at our Burn’s Assembly on Friday 25th January. Please feel free to come along to find out who our lucky winners are and to enjoy our school tribute to Scotland’s famous bard.
Oktoberfest? No, P5a’s Decemberfest festivities!
Germany has been a very enjoyable topic for our Social Studies investigation. And, as a special treat, we decided to sample our learning by tasting it! Yes that’s right – we used the annual Oktoberfest as our inspiration and planned our very own December fest. This involved preparing and making our own Bavarian Hats, Gingerbread Hearts and Gingerbread Houses. Typically, the first question asked was “Will we taste beer?” the pupil in question will of course remain anonymous ! However, great fun was indeed had by all, no beer but lashings of Ginger Beer – my little joke. The children were actually very keen to sample some German food including; Frankfurters, Stollen Cake, Pretzels, Haribo, German Rye Bread. I’m sure you will agree we all had fun at Tannochside’s first December fest – our pictures I’m sure will give you an insight into our special day. Merry Christmas. Mrs. Fullerton.
