S1 English

S1 are starting a new unit of work this week on the story “Spit Nolan.”  Pupils can access the story on MS Teams in the folder “Class Materials” they will find a folder titled “Spit Nolan” in their students will find the story and the powerpoint.  They should work through slides 1-9.  Pupils will need to record their work on paper if they do not have a purple jotter.  They will also need a highlighter or a different coloured pen to highlight quotes on the story.

S1 should also engage in reading for enjoyment ensuring they are reading for 15 minutes per day and recording what they are reading in their diaries.

S4 N5 English

The S4 N5 classes have an R.U.A.E. assessment this Wednesday.  In preparation for this we are working on R.U.A.E. using the powerpoints which are available on MS Teams.  They should use the core Powerpoints and work through Powerpoint one.

Any student who misses the assessment should arrange this with their teacher upon their return.

Higher English

This week we are working on R.U.A.E in preparation for the first assessment which will take place on Monday 5th October.    This assessment will be a full R.U.A.E paper worth 30 marks.

Homeowork has been issued too in preparation for this assessment and consequently all Higher students should undertake the 2015 Higher paper which is available on MS Teams in the Files tab, under past papers.

Pupils should work through the Higher Language text book (on MS Teams) in the Files tab. They should work through the book upto p48.

S3 Group 2 (Mrs MacDonald’s class)

This class should continue writing their reflective essay in their red writing jotter.  They should take time when they have finished their essay to edit their writing and correct any errors in spelling and punctuation.  They should also identify anywhere they can add thoughts and feelings and add these to the essay.

They should also ensure they have five similes or metaphors and five examples of good word choice in their writing.  Both should be identified and underlined in their writing.

Anyone who is finished can undertake the 2011 Close Reading paper in their pink jotter.  This paper can be found under files in the MS Team.

Higher English

Pupils are working towards an RUAE assessment which will take place on Monday 5th October.  They should continue to work through the RUAE text book which is on MS Teams.  They should also revise the five mark question using the PPT on MS Teams.

S4 English (Group 1)

This group are working on “A Hanging” Materials can be found in MS Teams under the files tab.  They should work on sentence structure this week which almost brings them to the end of this unit of work.

S4 will have an RUAE assessment on Monday 14th September.

S3 English

Pupils should write their reflective essay in their red writing jotter.  They should then edit their writing using a different coloured pen and focusing on the following targets:

  1. Have I included interesting word choice ?  (Identify any dull words and replace them with good examples of word choice)
  2. Have I included imagery ? (Add images [similes, metaphors, personification] wherever you can)
  3. Have I included description using the five senses ?
  4. Have I conveyed my thoughts and feelings as much as I can ?

S2 English

Puplis are working on their Individual Presentation, either “Desert Island Discs” or their Inspirational Person.  Talking Milestones Materials are available on MS Teams to allow them to complete this.    They should work through the materials and produce their talk cards.  One they have done this they should practise their presentation ready for assessment upon their return.

 

2.5, 2.6 and 2.7 have a double period of Literacy on Wednesday.  The RUAE text book is available on MS Teams.  Pupils should work through pages 1-8.

S1 English

This week S1 are working on their Individual Presentation using “Talking Milestones.”  The materials can be found on MS Teams by clicking on the files tab.  Pupils should work through the slides until they have produced their talk cards (most pupils have been given 3 cards for this if not use cut up pieces of paper.)  Once pupils have prepared their presentation they should practise it in preparation or assessment  when they return.

Pupil should also be engaging in 15 minutes of  private reading for pleasure every day.
