S2 English

For those who have finised the rearch task we have been working on comparing two sources – well done !  Keep your booklets and materials safe and look after your presentation, we will get them assessed when we return.

If you haven’t finished, don’t panic !  Work steadily doing a little every day until you get the work finished.  Your teacher is there to help you so ask if you need guidance,

We are going to move onto some reading work.  I have posted a “reading Strategies” booklet on the websit and on Edmodo.   Pupils should choose a book they haven’t read before, remember there are free books available on Audible and also “Kindle” if you can’t find anything at home.  Students should try to choose something they are interested in.

The booklet will take students through the reading strategies we would use in class.

S3 N5 2020-21

This week those studying ‘Sailmaker’ will be starting to think about character (this will probably take up at least the next two weeks). Pupils will be creating visualisers for each character in the play and will then start to read Act 1 whilst taking notes to add to the visualisers.

English – S3 Group 1

This group  will be set a different task each day from BBC Bitesize. The link will be  posted  each morning. Tasks range from writer’s techniques, reading challenges and more.

Pupils should send their work to Mrs Nelson ro Miss Murphy.

Higher English 2020-21

By now students should have finished preparing their presentation.  These will be assessed in class when students return to school in Phase 3.

This week students should start working on language using the language text book.  This will help to devlop the reading skills styarting today with paraphrasing and summarising.

Miss MacPhail’s S2 Class

This week Miss MacPhail’s S2 will be  learning about nouns and verbs. They will practise identifying these words in exercises and then identify them in their own  writing . We will be moving on to amazing adjectives at the end of the week.

S4 – Higher 2021

This group are working on their Spoken Presentation which at this stage has to be passed in order to sit the Higher exam.  They have materials which help them develop their skills and also materials on the topic which the will present on.

We are aiming to have this presentation work finished by next week so we can start some language work which will prepare students for the year ahead.

S4 – N5 2021

This group are reading the Alan Spence play “Sailmaker.”  The materials are available on the website and on Edmodo.  This week pupils are engaged in research which will help students when they come to work on the play.

Pupils should send their work to their teacher and should also remember that their teacher is there if they have questions or want something clarified.  This is a popular play which students generally love so we are hopeful S3 will enjoy this unit of work !

S3 English – Group 1

Daily tasks are uploded to Edmodo and pupils are encouraged to undertake these tasks and send them to their teacher.  The tasks are varied and include reading, writing and leanguage tasks which will help to boost the skills and knowledge of pupils in this group.

S2 English

Students are almost finished producing their AVU which will be delivered when we return to school during Phase 3.  The materials are available on Edmodo and the website.  Many pupils have worked very hard on this and we are delighted with the results.

Next week we want to start some reading tasks and pupils should start thinking about a text they would want to read, this can be either fiction ( a book/short story) or could be a newspaper article or a non-fiction book such as a biography.

Pupils are also encouraged to read for enjoyment and watch both fims and TV programmes during this time, these are excellent for their ability to analyse and develop their ability to handle and engage with media texts.  Discussing these texts at home can be highly benenfifial, particulalry if you ask open ended questions such as why do you think the director did that/showed that or why did they use that camera angle or have the character say that or do that ?  S2 pupils have developed a fairly sophisticated knowledge of film techniques including camera angles. Encouraging pupils to justify their own ideas by referring to the text is excellent preparation for the years ahead.

Finally, “Jurassic Park” was on the television over the weekend, hopefully those who hadn’t finished the film in class got a chance to catch up with it !
