Welcome!
As we approach the October break, pupils in the Languages faculty have been working hard on the following topics:
S1: Our first years are in the process of finishing their writing pieces on the short story ‘The New Boy’. Once complete, they will be starting the Individual Presentation unit in order to develop their skills in Talk and Finding and Using Information.
S2: In second year, pupils are completing their animal reports. This unit allowed pupils to develop their research skills and learn how to write informatively. Next, S2 will move onto Individual Presentation.
S3: Our third year pupils are working hard studying our class novels. Pupils are studying a range of texts across the year group such as Private Peaceful, Refugee Boy and The Wall. Our young people have been exploring important issues such as war and racism and will complete a critical essay on their class text and report on a key issue from their novel.
S4: Our National 5 classes have completed RUAE and the first draft of their folio this year. Currently, they are starting to study Sailmaker or Tally’s Blood for Scottish Text. In National 4, the classes have been learning all about persuasion and how to use persuasive techniques. They are currently writing their persuasive essays to put all of their new skills into practise.
S5/6: Our National 5 classes are starting their Scottish Texts after completing the RUAE and folio components of the course so far. In Higher, we are studying Men Should Weep for Scottish Text following the RUAE and folio units. Both N5 and Higher will return to folio for a second draft later in the school year.
Overall, it is an exciting and busy time in English and our young people are all working hard and have settled in well.
We hope you all have a wonderful October break!
