The Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004 sets out what the education authority must do in order to meet the needs of children who require additional support.
The additional support we provide may vary and will depend on a child’s needs. It may include:
- adapting the curriculum, the provision of equipment or resources to assist with learning
- additional adult support
- intervention from a specialist such as allied health professionals or social work
If you think your child requires support, please contact the headteacher, who will arrange to review your child’s progress at school and discuss the next steps with you.
Children may need additional support for a variety of timescales and reasons including:
- a physical disability
- looked after children
- social or emotional difficulties
- problems at home
- challenging behaviour
- a sensory impairment or communication impairment
- being a young carer or parent
- having English as a second language
Following a multi-agency discussion, (including conversations with lead professionals such as educational psychologists, social workers, health and education teams), a referral may be made to access additional support services.
