Friday 2nd September

P5/6 have been working very well in class and are well settled into the routines of school life.

This week in Numeracy we have been trying to improve out mental maths skills. We  have been revising place value and tables taught through lots of active learning activities.

In literacy we have enjoyed working in pairs and in groups to develop  our spelling strategies using a variety of  different active games. We love  reading and are enjoying our daily personal reading time in class.  All children prepared and delivered very interesting personal talks in class . What a super group of confident individuals !

We have been brainstorming what we know about Scotland in groups and enjoyed carrying out research on famous Scots at home.

Friday 2nd September 2016

This week has been a busy one in P6/7 and the children are settling well into our classroom routine.

We have been introduced to our new group novels within Literacy as well as revision of addition and subtraction within Numeracy. We have also been looking at the old testament within Religious Education and the stories within this as well as looking at Genesis which is one of the most important books within the bible.

As you may be aware, our whole school topic for this term will be Scotland where we will be looking at different aspects across various stages in our school. In class this week we were discussing what the children already know about Scotland and what they would like to learn about. This was a good class discussion and the areas that were highlighted by the children that they would like to learn more about were;

  • Scottish politics
  • Scottish kings
  • The Scottish Wars of Independence
  • Scottish symbols
  • Early Scottish history
  • Scottish landmarks
  • Geography and landscapes
  • Scottish artists and famous Scots
  • Scottish inventors
  • Scots language

It sounds like we will have our work cut out for us but we are all looking forward to our new topic and learning more about Scotland and our heritage.

It has been a busy week and we are all looking forward to a well earned rest

Friday, 2nd of September 2016

This week in Primary 3 we have enjoyed starting work on our new topic – Scotland. We looked at a range of famous Scottish landmarks, and used tissue paper to create our own Scottish flags.

We also had fun using our imaginations in Literacy where we wrote narrative stories about meeting the Loch Ness Monster!
