Community Foodbank

Throughout this advent period, the pupils in Primary 6 and 7 undertaking the Pope Francis Faith Award organised a food drive. Through kind donations from parents and guardians, we managed to gather lots of items for the Coatbridge Community Foodbank. This is our local Foodbank and it relies on donations, especially at this time of year, for the most needy in our community. Well done and a huge thanks to everyone involved.

Friday 19th December

Hello from Primary 6/7

This week we have been incorporating digital media into our language lessons. We have been using movie trailers as a way of creating character profiles, movie posters and movie boards as well as analysing lines from a movie and acting as a director in giving action points e.g facial expression, body posture, hand gestures etc. We have been using the film, ‘A Christmas Carol’ as part of our multimedia block and this is something the children have very much enjoyed!

We looked at what would be included in a movie poster as a means of engaging and informing people about the film, we watched some trailers and looked at movie posters and discussed what we should see on these. We decided they all need a title, main actor, illustration of main character and possibly setting, date of release and possibly a catchy slogan or quote from the film. These two girls followed this success criteria created fantastic movie posters and were chosen as star writers this week, well done girls!

Our Christmas production- please remember all children require a black t-shirt, black leggings/trousers for under their costume. If you could send this in with your child on Monday that would be very much appreciated.

Have a lovely weekend!

Primary 4/5 have finally completed their Charles Rennie MacIntosh designs.  They have studied Charles Rennie MacIntosh’s work throughout our Scottish theme. The children were looking at his stained glass designs and produced their very unique and talented designs of their own.

Friday, 16th December 2016

This week in Primary Three Maths we have been exploring the properties of 2D and 3D shape.

We started off by reminding ourselves of the shapes we had already learned about, before looking their different features in more depth. We then investigated which 2D shapes are used to make 3D shapes, before examining their similarities and differences.

We also had a great time making models with our 3D shapes, and today were set a problem solving challenge. Our challenge was to create a 3D cube out of straws. We were all successful in solving the problem of how to create the cube, even if we did have a few hiccups with getting them to stick together! We all worked very well as a team and didn’t give up until our cubes were made.

Finally, this week we also enjoyed learning more about Advent, and particularly the Advent wreath. We learned about the meanings of the candles and created our own beautiful paper collages.

What a busy week we have had!

We are all looking forward to sharing our Nativity show with you next week, as well as all of the Christmas treats that will be happening at school.

image  imagePrimary One have been very busy this week rehearsing for the Christmas Show. They were excellent at our dress rehearsal on Wednesday and are really excited to show off their talents and outfits to family and friends next week!

The children have been learning about French festive celebrations and made lovely French bookmarks for their partners.

Primary One listened very carefully when making Christmas cards using their fingerprints and took  time to produce lovely, neat work.

Another excellent week ! Well done, Primary One!!

St Kevin’s Choir

On Tuesday the choir visited Morrisons in Baillieston to sing some beautiful Christmas carols for the shoppers. The children had a fantastic time as did the parents who came along to see them in action. The songs were all sung beautifully and one shopper even commented that he thought they were a professional choir, they were obviously that good! The children sung carols such as ‘Silent Night’, ‘We three Kings’ and ‘Mary’s Boy Child’. Money was raised for a charity of Morrisons choosing. The children managed to make £190 in kind donations from the generous shoppers, not bad for an hours work!

Some of our Primary 6 friends came to visit today. They read us stories and helped us with jigsaws. We showed them that we have been learning letters and numbers using the toy elephants and the magnetic boards and letters. They cannot visit us this afternoon because they have a dress rehearsal for their Christmas Show Joseph and his Technicolour Dream Coat. We wish them lots of luck.
