Today some of the children who are going to St Kevins Primary School visited the Primary One classroom to meet Mrs Pearson, the teacher and their new chums. They listened to a story and had the opportunity to sit with their chum and complete an activity. This process will continue until June. It allows the children to gain an understanding of the school layout and the class routines as well as meet the teaching staff.

Eco Flag

We are delighted to be awarded with our third Eco flag. A lot of work has been put into achieving this by both Mrs Goldie and the children in our Eco Commitee. Well done to all!

Our local MSP, Fulton McGregor visited the school to help us raise our new flag. We were so glad he managed to take time out of his busy schedule to come along to help us. The Coatbridge Advertiser also came along to photograph this. We are all very proud of our efforts!

After a long relaxing Christmas holiday, our Primary Three mathematicians were excited to begin our new Numeracy topic of Money. We began our week by looking at different coin combinations to make the same amounts, and finished by using different strategies to add amounts of money together to make totals. We had a great time playing shopkeepers and customers, and used our problem solving skills to buy items using the fewest coins possible.
Next week we are looking forward to moving on to giving change.

As we have begun the New Year we also decided to set ourselves some New Years Resolutions. We had a class discussion about what a resolution is, and decided to choose ones for ourselves that we felt were achievable. We then made a lovely paper collage displaying our resolutions and enjoyed sharing them with each other.

This week also learned that our new class topic is The Human Body, and after a brief introduction, we can’t wait to get fully started next week!

Our topic in nursery is Bears. We are going to be looking at all kinds of bears including fictional bears and finding out lots of interesting facts. We will investigating using different types of media. We will be using technology to help us. Everyone, including all of the staff, came to nursery today wearing their pyjamas and with their favourite teddy. We had a special snack and pretended we were going on a Bear Hunt.

imageHappy New Year from Primary One!

The children have been very busy after their Christmas holiday! This week, Primary One have been continuing phoneme and spelling work and produced an excellent story all about their experience of Christmas Day. The children listened very carefully and used their writing mats to help create stories.

Primary One have been learning to tell the time and thoroughly enjoyed working with their partners to tell each other the time using clocks.

The children had great fun guessing which objects would float or sink during our science experiment and made excellent predictions of the results.

Well Done!!!

Primary two – 13th January 2017

This week the children have been exploring 3D shapes. They have been introduced to the language associated with 3D shapes.  The children have also used these geometrical shapes to build models in order to support them with the recognition of these shapes. We enjoyed discussion of the simple properties associated with these shapes and used ICT in order to aid a deeper understanding.
