This week in Primary Three, our super scientists have been finishing up their topic work on The Human Body.

As we have already learned about what’s inside our bodies, and how exercise can help our organs and bones, we decided to explore what food and drink is best for keeping ourselves healthy too. We looked at the Eat Well plate and learned about the importance of having a balanced diet, and eating a range of food from the 5 food groups. We learned the names of the food groups, and took part in some sorting activities to help us see which food belongs to which group.
We finished our lessons by creating our own healthy balanced meal on plate.

This week we also had our final 7th birthday celebration!
Our lovely classmate brought in some cupcakes for us all to enjoy, and as we learned through the Eat Well Plate – it’s okay to treat yourself during special occasions!image\
Finally, we had a great time at school today for our Pyjama Day in aid of Mary’s Meals.
We all enjoyed being comfortable and cosy in class and loved seeing each others’ jammies!

We are all looking forward to returning to school next Thursday after having a rest this holiday weekend.

We cannot wait to begin work on our next science topic – Plants and Animals.

Charity

This week we were visited by a representative of Mary’s Meals. This is one of our Lenten charities alongside Lepra. Today we all came to school dressed in our pyjamas and slippers for our pyjama day organised by the pupil council. We decided that the £1 that the children were paying for the pyjama day would be donated to Mary’s Meals which is a very worthwhile cause.

Hello from a very fit Primary One!

The children have had a very interesting week with lots of different activities and learning outcomes across the curriculum.

Primary One had the opportunity to take part in Tae Kwon Do which was led by Mr Elder and demonstrated excellent listening skills to carry out their moves. They learned some basic self defence and how to become more aware of their surroundings. The children had great fun taking turns to punch and kick the pads and learned about the importance of self control.

Primary One listened very carefully during a talk from the Scottish SPCA and were able to identify how to care for injured animals and the types of animals that the society helps.

The children were also super buddies to the nursery children for our second transition on Tuesday and had great fun showing our new starts the class routine!

A very busy week topped off with a pyjama and movie day. What a week, Primary One!

Hello from Primary two

This week the children of Primary two have participated in Taekwon-do activities.  The children thoroughly enjoyed being involved in this fun and safe Martial Arts training.  These activities helped improve the children’s fitness, self confidence, self discipline, coordination and flexibility.

Today some of the nursery children had the opportunity to visit the primary one class. With their chums they practised writing their names and drawing pictures of each other. Some of primary one came down to nursery and thought our igloo was fantastic! They said that nursery had lots of new games which were very good. We had to make extra toast for our visitors at snack time.

Friday 3rd February

Hello from Primary 6/7

This week we have been continuing our block on money and looking at Hire Purchase and Foreign Exchange. We understand that financial education plays an important part in our lives. We have been using exchange rates to calculate the currency we would receive.

As part of our topic, Planet Earth, we have been researching natural disasters such as the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii and the Bangladesh cyclone in . The children chose a natural disaster and used the Internet to research information about this, they will then use these notes to create a detailed report.

We started painting our portraits this week and have been learning about mixing paint colours to get the optimum colour as well as how to make colours lighter and darker. We used different colours to create shading just like the artist has done. We are very happy with how our portraits are turning out and we will complete these next week.

This week has been a very creative one in Primary Three!

Our amazing artists started the week by taking part in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival poster competition, where we were challenged to create a design inspired by Edinburgh. This was easy for us as we were able to draw on our prior knowledge from our Scotland topic last term. We chose to use oil pastels for our entries, as we all enjoy the bold colours and interesting textures that they create.

Our next creative venture was a final celebration for Chinese New Year. As we know this year is the Year of the Rooster, we decided to create some bright paintings as a tribute to the animal. To make our paintings more challenging and interesting, we used forks and toothbrushes to create a beautiful feather effect.

We were then thrilled to finish our celebration with some fortune cookies!

This week we also received a nice surprise as we found our favourite pieces of art from last term displayed in The St. Kevin’s Gallery of Modern Art.

We could not be prouder to have these beautiful pictures up for everyone to see.
