This week our Primary Three mathematicians have enjoyed exploring their new maths topic of Measure.

We began our week by concentrating on length, height and width – which we learned can be measured in units of millimetres, centimetres and metres. We had a lot of fun making the most of the sunny weather, and using instruments like metre sticks and tape measures to complete a range of challenges. We then moved on to weight and learned about grams and kilograms, which we used to complete some weighing challenges in the classroom.

In topic, we completed our ancient Egyptian death masks which we know were placed over the faces of mummified pharaohs. We used metallic paint and glitter and represent the gold and jewels that would have been used in ancient Egypt. We think you will agree that they are very effective!

We also wrote some exciting newspaper reports based on last months real life discovery of 8 mummies in the Valley of Kings, as well as starting work on a special task with the pasta that was kindly donated by our families.

We hope to show you what we did with it next week!

This months topic was Healthy Holly and Active Austin where we were learning about being healthy and active. One of our activities was to learn about healthy and unhealthy foods . Some of the children were making fruit faces to demonstrate what was healthy and what wasn’t. The children enjoyed making the faces but enjoyed eating them even more.

Friday 28th April

Primary 5/6 have all enjoyed learning about who the Vikings were and where they came from his week .We enjoyed watching video clips on Gogglebox and worked very successfully with a partner to identify  where Sweden, Denmark and Norway . We now know that Vikings were travellers who raided and traded. The first Vikings left their Scandinavia homelands and set up home in other countries . For 500 years , from about 700AD , Vikings ruled the north of Scotland , the Orkney and Shetland islands and the Hebrides off the Scottish west coast . We are really looking forward to learning about Viking customs next week .

Today in school we were very lucky to have the opportunity to take part in a very energetic and exciting dance session . Stephanie from VIP dance taught us all some fabulous moves . We definitely have lots of very talented children .

Active Learning in P3

Primary 3 have had a very busy and active week.

This week the boys and girls showed just how fit and flexible they were in Cosmic Kids Yoga. Mrs McKendrick was very impressed! They also got to boogie on down to the rhythm of the music in our great dance workshop. Watch out Darcey Bussell!

Also this week the children took part in paired reading with some of the older children in the school. This really helps with fluency and confidence, and gives them a chance to read for enjoyment.

It was competition time in ICT this week when we used our internet research skills to complete a class quiz. Well done to the winning team-Darcy and Lucy Anne.

Primary 3 are always so enthusiastic about learning new Spanish words. This week they were learning about food and drinks. They played fun games to show their understanding of new vocabulary and talked to each other about food they liked and didn’t like. Well done P3!

Report writers

P4/5 have enjoyed learning about the features of reports.  In class, they worked alongside Miss Fleming to write a section of their report based on ‘Life in 2017’.

The children also enjoyed participating in an individual class dance session.  They showed some excellent moves and had a wonderful time!

In class, we have introduced ‘VIP of the week’ where the children have to nominate who the think has worked well and made improvements to their behaviour/effort.  Our first class VIP was Lee McAtear – well done Lee you deserve it for all your hard work this week!

What a very busy week for Primary One!

The children had a fantastic time at hockey with members of Uddingston Hockey Club. They learned how to hold and control the stick and took their time to weave in and out of the cones using the correct side of their hockey stick.

Primary One also had great fun making ‘rainbows’ as part of their diffusion experiment. They took great care to place coloured sweets around the bowl and add water to watch the colours travelling to the centre. The children were able to use this experience to instruct others on how to carry out this experiment as part of taught writing.

Super listening and a fantastic week of great work. Well done, Primary One!!
