Uddingston Hockey Club

Uddingston Hockey Club has enjoyed the opportunity to provide hockey coaching sessions to St. Kevin’s Primary School as part of the Park’s BWM School Coaching Programme.  It has been great to see the children develop their skills, with the help of Uddingston Hockey Club’s UKCC Level 2 coaches upon the fantastic pitch the school has.
Thanks to the school staff and helpers for allowing the children the chance to showcase these skills by attending the end of term festivals at the school.  Well done to all the children who took part.

It has been great to see many children attend Uddingston Hockey Club’s Tuesday and Thursday Youth Coaching Sessions 6:00-8:00pm over the last few months.  These youth sessions will continue until the 22nd of June and Restart on the 22nd of August.  Everyone is more than welcome to attend with no booking necessary.  All equipment will be provided.  We also look forward to seeing St. Kevin’s Primary children attending any of our six weeks of summer camps (w/c 03/07/17-w/c 07/08/17).  Camps are open to everyone with option to book individual days or weeks.  For further information please visit [ http://www.uddingstonhockeyclub.co.uk www.uddingstonhockryclub.co.uk or email mailto:uddingstonhc.youthcamps@gmail.com uddingstonhc.youthcamps@gmail.com

Friday 2nd June 2017

Hello from Primary One!

This week, Primary One have been writing acrostic poems about people who help us and the children are working so hard to keep their work neat and tidy.

The children have been learning about non- standard ways of measuring and had great fun measuring each other using tapes, books and giant blocks!

They enjoyed painting hats for their ‘People Who Help Us’ topic and are looking forward to acting out their chosen role. The children took great care when painting and were very responsible when using paint.

Well done, Primary One!

Friday 2 June

Primary 5/6 have been busy learning about different types of angles this week during active maths . We can now all successfully describe right , acute, obtuse , straight and reflex angles . Primary 5 worked with a partner to use a right angle check to determine the size of an angle while P6 worked meticulously to use a protractor to measure the size of an angle  . What a super bunch of mathematicians !

During our topic work we were learning about the Viking Gods . We enjoyed listening to some Viking sagas . Then in class we all worked enthusiastically to create our own storyboards of the Viking saga of Thor and the Giants .

We are looking forward to learning about Viking jewellery next week .

Below are some examples of our wonderful Viking art work .

What a busy week we’ve had!!!

We have had lots of fun learning about the 80’s! In class we learned about Band Aid and Live Aid .  We showed our understanding of their importance by writing a report about them.

We have also enjoyed learning about Fractions and Decimals.  We thoroughly enjoyed participating in various activities through group rotation stations.

In class, we have enjoyed participating in Art activities that have focused on aspects of our 80’s topic.  We learned about Andy Warhol and his influence in Pop Art.  We recreated our own favourite cartoon characters using the Pop Art technique.  We also designed our own Wildlife bars, as we learned this was a one of the most popular chocolate bars in the 80’s, which is known today as a Dairymilk bar.

Friday 2nd June

Hello from Primary 6/7

This week we have been continuing with our Caribbean topic. For our taught writing lesson this week we were learning about the genre, ‘recount’. We were looking at the features of this and writing a postcard, imagining we were holidaying on a Caribbean island (if only!) we had to use a range of similes, adjectives, write in the past tense and use relevant information about the island (hotel, food, activities, landmarks, weather etc) in our recount. They all turned out fantastically and made us all wish we were there!

We have also been designing costumes as we have been learning about Carnival. We have been talking about the culture and history of this event and how slavery had a major impact on the dress, food and music of this. Our designs are well underway and we are looking forward to decorating these with feathers, sequins, glitter to make them more elaborate and suited for the event. We will also be designing masks to accompany these. We also completed our Caribbean sunsets, they have brightened up our display and we are very proud of them.

Our Primary Three architects were so excited to see each other’s homemade pyramids, that we decided to turn our desks into mini Ancient Egypts! We used crepe paper to create the desert and the River Nile and placed our pyramids alongside it. Some of us even added some animals, hieroglyphs, boats and Egyptians.

Everyone at school was so impressed with how hard we worked and how creative we had been with our pyramids. Each one was unique and impressive!

We are very thankful to everyone at home who helped us with the designing and building.

Friday 19th May

Primary 4/5 have been working very hard this week.

We have been trying to improve our Mental Maths skills by using lots of helpful strategies. Take a look at our pictures to see our Mental Maths Superstars!

This week we have been continuing to learn about the 80’s era in our topic. The children have been learning about pop art and researching information about Andy Warhol. The children had a go at creating some of their own pop art.

Also this week, the children were learning about the importance of road safety and the danger areas around large lorries and trucks. They were visited by some DHL drivers who brought along their huge lorry, and taught the children about the blind spots of drivers and how to be safe. Some children even got to climb on board and see the view from the driver’s seat!

Finally, we had many Super Spellers this week who worked hard to learn their phoneme words and scored full marks on their spelling test-well done boys and girls!

Friday 19th May

Primary 5/6 have enjoyed a very busy and productive week in class .

During our taught writing lesson we were using our knowledge of the Viking raids on the tidal island of Lindisfarne to create some fabulous reports in the style of a newspaper report . To begin with we used our note taking skills to help ensure the key information was documented in our reports . We then looked at different styles of newspaper repor layouts and discussed within our groups how it’s important to grab the readers attention with a striking headline .

At the end of our lesson we shared our fabulous work with our partners to peer assess . We were using a checklist to ensure we had successfully used correct punctuation , descriptive language and had included pictures to add detail .

The children were also put through a difficult stamina test in the gym this week . All children took part in the bleep test with the karate coach. What a competitive bunch ! Well done to Eoin and Christopher who were awarded class champions .
