Friday 16th June 2017

Primary One have been working very hard this week to revise common words, phonemes and letter formation before the end of term.

They have enjoyed learning all about different methods for measuring and had great fun in the playground measuring a whale and investigating the area of a variety of shapes.

The children are excited about the school trip and were able to give very good responses regarding safety concerns when out of school.

Well done, Primary One for another super week!

Due to inclement weather recently there was a “Snowfall” in our nursery garden. The children had soo much fun playing in the snow, making snow angels and throwing snowballs at each other. The ladies also had loads of fun joining in playing with the “Snow” The children can’t wait for the next “Snowfall”

Friday 9th June

Hello from Primary 6/7

This week we have been working incredibly hard in the lead up to the end of term. Primary 7 have been completing e-portfolios and critical essays for their transition to high school.

Next week the primary 7 pupils will be attending St Ambrose to watch a performance of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, we are all looking forward to this as St Ambrose always put on a very good show. Please note, letters were sent out during the week asking if children could make their own way to St Ambrose High school for 9am where they will be met by myself. They will then be brought back to school at lunchtime.

P4/5 are songwriters in the making!

As part of our 80’s topic we have been learning about the importance of Band Aid and how the song ‘Do they know it’s Christmas’ was created to encourage people to think about people less fortunate than themselves. We looked closely at the lyrics and how the words were chosen to tell the story of the famine in Ethiopia at that time.  In class, the children have been given the challenge to create their own song to encourage world peace, by adapting the lyrics to ‘Do they know it’s Christmas’. I can’t wait to hear the final results next week!

This week in P.E. our Primary Three boxers have been furthering their fitness skills and boxing techniques.

For our warm up we had to complete circuits of running, press ups, star jumps, sit ups and punches. We did this 6 times in a row before moving on to practising our boxing skills with a partner. As you can see we have become very good at punching and dodging, and are always careful to never actually hit anyone.

In the video you can see who made it into the finals this week!

In Topic we took a closer look at the Ancient Egyptian gods and learned about what each one stood for and what they looked like. We then each chose our favourite god to create a portrait of, but decided to to draw these in a very special way! We drew our gods on tinfoil and coloured them in with felt tips because we wanted to give our pictures the feeling of being made from precious metals and gems – just like they would have been in the tombs of the Pharoahs.

As you can see our technique was really effective!

Election campaign week in P4/5

As part of our topic, we have focused on the 2017 General Election.  In class, we have worked cooperatively within our groups to create our own party election campaigns.  We decided on a party name, logo and created our own manifesto.  As part of our story writing lesson, we learned about the features of a poster and used these skills to create a poster to encourage people to vote for our particular parties – The Diamonds, Golden Moldas, Need for Speed and SMP Green.  What a fantastic time we have had!

This week, Primary One completed their ‘ People Who Help Us’ hats and were delighted to show off super artwork and act out their jobs.

The children have now finished their hockey training and have made excellent progress in both hockey and karate as a result of excellent listening.

Primary One had great fun measuring sand and water at Purposeful Play and were excellent when sharing resources with each other. Another week of great work!

Well done, Primary One!
