We are now at the beginning of our first full week in Primary 6/7, we have all had a relaxing weekend and are enthusiastic to start our work, summer seems like a distant memory!

This year will be a jam packed year especially for our Primary 7 children who will be transitioning to High School next summer. At this current time it seems like a million years away but it will pass in a flash.

I am looking forward to working with Primary 6/7 again this year and I have high expectations for this group. I am sure it will be a terrific year.

Welcome Back

Welcome back to all of our pupils!

We have now come to the end of the first week at St Kevin’s and we can’t quite believe it!

we had lots of smiling faces in our lines this morning and it is fantastic to see all of our lovely pupils again after a very restful summer. Everyone has settled in well to their classes, especially our new Primary 1 pupils who are swiftly getting into their new routine with Mrs Pearson.

We are sure it is going to be a fantastic year!

P7 Prom

The primary 7 children have had an exciting and jam packed week. This afternoon they had their leavers prom, the theme was the Caribbean which is linked to their topic this term. The children enjoyed party games, Caribbean themed food, dancing, tropical cocktails (no alcohol obviously) and had a Caribbean photo booth. As you can see from the photos below a great time was had by all!

Today we took advantage of the lovely weather and spent the afternoon in the school playground. The children had great fun climbing on the equipment, practising their balancing and safety skills and achieving new goals such as climbing right over the scramble net. We had snack in the sunshine too.

80’s vinyl records

In class we have been learning about 80’s music.  We looked at a real vinyl record, listened to some famous 80’s songs and then created our own posters to promote our own vinyl record, which we are designing as part of our art.

MP’s in the making

P4/5 thoroughly enjoyed delivering their Manifesto speeches to their peers.  They enjoyed participating in the question and answer session on ways they would improve St Kevin’s.  They had some fabulous ideas such as regular movie nights to cutting school hours! We definately have enjoyed learning about the elections as part of our 80’s topic.

Friday 16 June

Primary 5/6 have enjoyed learning about the clothing fashion during Viking times . We worked in pairs to complete a listening activity to record factual information about clothes female and male clothing garments . Then we developed our art and design skills  through using clay to create some fabulous Viking brooches and pendents . We are looking forward to painting them next week at school .

We have also been working very hard in class to increase our mental arithmetic skills through using Sumdog . The children are all enjoying using the programme and have a log in code which can be used at home . Please encourage your child to use as often as possible .

Below are some photographs of our wonderful 3D shapes we created in class over the last few weeks . We have developed confidence talking about edges , faces and corners and can identify a 3D shape from a net .

Friday, 16th June 2017

This week in Primary Three our Ancient Egypt experts have enjoyed linking their Topic work to Literacy and Maths.

In Taught Writing we created Travel Brochures for Egypt.
After looking at examples of brochures, we decided that we would make ours eye-catching by using bright colours, pictures and maps. We used the knowledge we have gained over this term, as well as iPads to research places of interest and facts that would persuade readers to visit the country.

In Maths we learned about the Ancient Egyptian number system, and enjoyed completing place value challenges with them. We found it really interesting that they used symbols similar to their Hieroglyphic Alphabet, and had fun trying to decipher them.

Next week will be our last full week of school and we are looking forward to finishing up work on our Topic, and having our last Karate session where an overall winner will be announced!
