Kilbowie Day 1

We arrived safe and sound in Oban this afternoon, where we were fed and watered before being taken out on our first activity!

We had fun canoeing and jumping in the water which gave us a taste of what Kilbowie is all about!

Monday 18th September

hello from Primary 6/7

We have been immersing ourselves in France this week, looking at landmarks, the 13 provinces of France and French art work. We have been learning about the life and work of Claude Monet who is a pioneer of the impressionist movement in France in the 1800s. We have been studying his work, ‘Monet’s Garden’ and recreating this famous piece using watercolours and chalk pastels to add detail. Have a look below at some of our finished work and I’m sure you’ll be impressed!

We are going to continue with our topic by looking at French history, including the French Revolution, we are certainly getting into the spirit of this topic, ‘Liberty, equality and fraternity

Matisse’s Garden in P4/5

This week our Primary 4/5 artistes continued work on their artist study of Henri Matisse.

We read the story Matisse’s Garden which showed us examples of Matisse’s famous art series ‘The Cut Outs’. We were so inspired by his abstract patterns that we decided to create our own.

As we did with the snails last week, we only used scissors, paper and glue to create our pictures. No pencils or pens allowed! Some of us used a green background for the grass, and some used blue for the sky. When we were finished we joined all of our work up to make one big beautiful garden!

We are so pleased with all our hard work!

They thoroughly enjoyed circuits at PE and demonstrated super listening skills and excellent team work.

The children are working very hard to follow the class routine and are working very well during partner tasks.

A fantastic week. Well done, Primary One!

Drawing With Scissors in P4/5

This week as part of our French Topic, our P4/5 artistes began an artist study of painter Henri Matisse. We explored how Matisse cut shapes from coloured paper and placed them on bright backgrounds to create interesting and vibrant collages. We learned that he called this form of art ‘drawing with scissors’.

We were particularly inspired by one of his most famous artworks ,’The Snail’, and decided to create our own.

We learned that colour harmonies and contrasts were very important to Matisse, and made sure we thought about this when making our own abstract snails.

As you can see they look magnifique!

We cannot wait to continue our artist study next week.
