Growth Mindset and Measure in P4/5

P4/5 were very lucky to receive a presentation and workshop focusing on Growth Mindset. We learned about ‘the power of yet’ and how to change negative thoughts into positive ones. Instead of saying “We can’t do that!” we should say “We can’t do that yet!”

In Maths we have been learning about different units of measure. We have looked at Length and Area and last week focussed on Weight. We had a great time using scales and weights to compete some challenges! This week we will be moving on to Volume.

Friday 27th April 2018

Primary One have been very busy learning about how seeds grow into plants. They have worked well with our student, Miss Young to nurture the plants by watering them and giving them plenty of sunshine where possible!

The children have enjoyed using coins and purses to make amounts and enjoyed playing shops at the crèche using a variety of coins to purchase items.

Primary One had great fun playing rounders on the pitch as a result of a long awaited break in the weather.

They have been excellent buddies to the nursery children during transition and have been very keen to pass on their expertise.

The children made thank you cards and enjoyed a class party as they said farewell to our excellent student, Miss Young. On behalf of all of us in Primary One, I’d like to thank Miss Young for all her great lessons, care and support of the children and wish her all the very best for the future.

27 March 2018

Last week   the children in P3/4 entertained each other with some fabulous presentations about Space . Everyone worked very hard to plan and prepare a  presentation to celebrate our learning about Space.  We all worked well to develop our talking and listening skills as we had to take turns being the main speaker . We used our listening tools to ensure we were also a very good audience .

A class full of very successful learners and extremely confident individuals . Well done children !

This week, Primary One have been taking part in lots of fun lessons with our student, Miss Young. The children enjoyed finding lines of symmetry in shapes through folding, writing a newspaper report based on Katie Morag and exploring feelings using circle time.

The children were delighted to receive good reports and show off all of their hard work at Parents’ Evening.

Well done, Primary One!

Eco News: Earth Hour

As well as taking part in Waste Week, the St Kevin’s Eco Committee have also been promoting Earth Hour.

At school we have been learning about the environmental threats our planet is currently facing. Wildlife we love, like elephants, turtles and polar bears, are at risk from the effects of climate change, pollution & over-consumption.

To try and help, every pupil in our school made a promise for Earth Hour that they will all try and stick to.

Earth Hour is taking place on Saturday the 24th of March at 8:30pm, and we would love for as many pupils as possible to take part at home.

It simply involves switching off your lights for one hour.

Body Works Workshop and Lent in P4/5

Our P4/5 Scientists were very lucky to receive another visit from Generation Science!

This time it was for their Body Works workshop.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We revised what we already knew about our bodies and how they work. It was a great refresher of our Human Body topic from last year!

In R.E. we have been learning about Lent and raising money for our Lenten Charity Missio.

We all challenged ourselves to either give something up or take something up during Lent to further understand the sacrifice Jesus made for us.

As a class we have set the target of raising £50 for Missio, and so far we have raised £24.10! Almost halfway there already!

Eco News: Waste Week

This week at St. Kevin’s we will be taking part in Waste Week.

Image result for waste week 2018

We will be encouraging pupils to think about food and packaging waste, and how we can reduce it in our school.

Image result for fruit

One way we can reduce packaging is through Fruit Friday.

We will be asking everyone to bring in fruit for their playtime snack on Friday so that there will be much less waste to recycle.

Friday 16th March 2018

Primary One have thoroughly enjoyed working with our student, Miss Young. They have been working on phonics, numeracy and taught writing lessons. The children had great fun writing invitations where they invited their shoulder partner to their party! The children enjoyed wearing party hats for inspiration!

Primary One also enjoyed practising their karate moves today and demonstrated excellent listening skills for the instructor.
