MacMIllan Coffee Morning

Primary 7 have done an amazing job of organising and running a coffee morning. Can we thank all parents and carers who sent in donations and those who attended our event. Between both schools there was over £750 raised so far, which will help an amazing cause.

We organised and ran a bake sale this morning that raised over £100, it was a huge success!

Primary 2 Fairyland Music Pictures

As part of our Fairyland topic we have been exploring lots of fairy tales, looking at the different settings, characters and story lines in each tale. This week we had a think about how we could use musical instruments to accompany the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ e.g. making the giant’s footsteps, what would magic beans sound like, which instruments could we use to show to mood of the characters.

We had lots of fun doing this and and next week we will put all of our ideas together to create music for our storyline.

Primary 1

Primary 1 have been working hard to read , write and count collections to 5 . We enjoyed using different materials to help us show ways to make different amounts .

We have all enjoyed learning to subitise to 5 using good looking skills to say what we see .

With it being the last day of the week before the holidays we all enjoyed taking part in some fun activities together . Some children chose to go outside to play where as others decided to take part in table top games or an art activity.

Mrs Doran enjoyed creating some fabulous wax resist of under the sea pictures  with children from Primary 1-3 .

Primary 7

Hello from Primary 7,

Primary 7 have settled in very well to their new class and have been working exceptionally hard over the last month.

Literacy – We have completed a modelling block and have now introduced our group novels. We have been working with these alongside our comprehension strategies. We have also been using stage 6/7 for our spelling programme. The genre we have been focussing on is Narrative. We have been learning to create effective character descriptions, openers, setting descriptions and using pictures as a stimulus for writing.

Numeracy – We have been revising place value and number processes, we have just started our money topic where we have been learning about banking. We will be focussing on how we pay for things, calculating interest and APR, hire purchase, spending in a budget as well as calculating foreign exchange. I think we have some budding bankers in the making!

I.D.L – The children selected their topic and the topic they chose was Japan! It is a great topic and we are looking forward to immersing ourselves further into this. We have already looked at the Japanese language as well as major cities and landmarks, artists and folklore and tradition. We studied the artist Hokusai and recreated his famous piece of art ‘The Great Wave’ using hot and cold colours. You can see some in our gallery.

Health and Wellbeing – Our block this term in P.E is tennis. Our P.E days are Tuesday and Wednesday.

R.E – A reminder to parents we will be continuing with The Pope Francis Faith Award and look forward to welcoming the new Primary 6 children who will be starting to undertake the work for their award.

REMINDER – Primary 7 will be hosting a coffee morning on Friday 28th September at 1-2.30pm, please come along and help us raise money for MacMillan. If you could also make some donations of bought baked goods and raffle prizes, that would be much appreciated.

This week we have been busy working on our mental maths using number fans, whiteboards and active games. We have taken some of our learning outside when the weather has been dry and we have had a great time doing this!

Over the next couple of weeks we will be getting busy with our fairyland topic and will be working as a team to create a fairyland scene. Stay tuned for photos.
