St Kevin's Primary and Nursery

Primary Two- Friday 2nd December

This week Primary Two participated in the St Andrew’s Day celebrations.

We were able to take a trip down memory lane and were able to explore games of the past which children in Scotland played. We were introduced to the activities using skipping ropes which was a communal activity in which gran, bair a or weans played together on the pavement outside the tenements of our great cities with signing songs and rhymes. We were able to use a Gird and Cleek which was the ace toy, popular in Victorian times. The children were fascinated with the simple Whip and Peerie which is an excellent activity for developing eye co-ordination.

Later, we were involved in designing our own kilt patterns, completing a Scottish Word Puzzle and studying a Scottish poem. Of course no St Andrew’s Day is complete without a tasting session of Scottish produce – tablet, teacakes and Irn bru.

We learned many new interesting facts about the life of st Andrew. A great time was had by all!
