After the terrific two week long Easter holidays, our Primary Three historians were really keen to begin work on our new topic of Ancient Egypt.
We began with a brief introduction to Ancient Egypt, where we firstly looked at where Egypt is on a map and explored where it is in relation to Scotland. We were then fascinated to learn that the ancient Egyptians were alive over 5000 years ago, and that the River Nile was a very important part of their daily lives.
Our favourite activity this week was exploring Egyptian Hieroglyphs, which we know were used to tell stories and record information. We decided to try and spell our own names in hieroglyphics, and while we didn’t have any papyrus paper like the ancient Egyptians did, we used teabags and water to make our scrolls look as if they were from ancient times.
We really can’t wait to learn more about this interesting and exciting historical topic!
Next week we are really looking forward to having Mrs McKendrick teach us as Miss McFadyen will be in Kilbowie with Primary Seven.
