We are implementing the Three Read Approach in nursery. This involves reading the same book three times with the children.  The first time, the book is read to the children by the adult. The second read involves the adult using open questions such as “what do you think might happen next” or “how do you think that person feels?” with the children. There are visual aids such as puppets too. On the third read the children re-tell the story to the adult using the pictures, puppets and their memory skills. The children also learn about the different parts of the book such as the beginning, the middle, the spine and the blurb on the back of the book. They also find about the roles of the author and the illustrator. The Cherry group are the first group to take part but all of the children will have the opportunity to participate.
