Primary 6 Parent Letter

I can’t quite believe Term 4 is upon us already. Time clearly flies when you are learning and having fun. I am very proud of what the children achieved in Term 3 and I hope you all enjoyed your Easter break – it was well deserved. Term 4 is going to be particularly busy with a big focus on our summer show. The Primary 6’s and 7’s will be doing Aladdin.

Literacy

The children will continue with the same North Lanarkshire Active Literacy Programme for Spelling, Reading, Writing and Talking and Listening in Term 4. They will cover two novels this term and will be continuing with the same comprehension strategies for our reading, gaining confidence in these as the term progresses. The novels that will be covered this term are; The Eleventh Orphan, The Borrowers, Kensuke’s Kingdom, Why The Whales Came and a variety of Rapid Readers books. Our main focus throughout our writing lessons this term will be ‘discursive writing’, where the children will be learning to write about two points of view and compare and discuss these.

Maths

In Term 4 we will be looking at a variety of maths concepts including; Fractions, Expressions and Equations, Maps and Co-ordinates, Angles and Negative Numbers. Again, we will be using the active approaches from the Heinemann Active planners along with the Teejay textbooks. Please ensure that your child is continuing to learn all of their times tables from 2-10 at home. This is crucial for them to increase the pace of their work.

Health and Wellbeing

P.E this term will focus on ‘Striking and Fielding’ and this should set the children in good stead for sports day in June. With nice weather promised in May, the children should hopefully get outside to fully embrace this programme. Our P.E days remain a Monday and a Thursday and could you please ensure that your child has their kit in every Monday for the rest of the week. Also, in Health and Wellbeing this term the children will be covering the ‘God’s Loving Plan’ programme.

Social Studies

The children of Primary 6 will be exploring ‘Britain’s Cultural Diversity’ this term. We will be linking this to our summer show as much as we can. The children will apply their learning across the curriculum with a particular focus within the curriculum areas of Social Studies, Expressive Arts and Technologies.

R.E

During our R.E lessons we will be focusing on ‘Eastertide’, ‘Pentecost and the Trinity’ and ‘Mass’ along with the ‘God’s Loving Plan’ programme at the end of the term. I’d like to say a massive well done to the boys and girls for making their Sacrament of Confirmation. A lot of hard work, time and effort went into making this a success and it really paid off. The children were fabulous!

If you have any queries don’t hesitate to use your child’s diary as a means of contact with myself.

Thank you again for all of your support so far this year.

Miss Mitchell
